Ford Escape 2003. Engine suddenly overheat.

Ford Escape 2003. Engine suddenly overheat. Water pump seems okay. Radiator seems okay.

The coolant level also drops and there is no obvious sign of leakage. I also removed the thermostat and released the top coolant hose to the radiator to ensure the flow while the engine is running.

Engine over heating can be caused by a number of things. When you say the water pump and radiator appear to be ok I am also guessing that you checked the coolant level to make sure it is normal.

If the level is low then you obviously have a leak. Insufficient coolant circulating will not cool the motor properly because it won't be able to draw enough heat out. If the level is normal then you need to check the thermostat to make sure it is opening properly. To do this, run the motor to temperature and check the top and bottom hoses. They should both be hot and firrm once the thermostat opens meaning the circulation loop is operating properly. If the top is hot and firm and the bottom is cold/soft or collapsed then the thermostat isn't opening.

If the thermostat is operating properly then you ned to look for some other obstruction or cause for coolant loss. Check the head/intake gaskets, hose connections, hoses, over flow tank, radiator fins, radiator side tanks etc..

Good luck.

If your coolant level is dropping you have a leak somewhere. You can either have the system pressure tested or visually inspect it. If you visually inspect it make sure it is running when you do because many leaks will only show while under pressure. If the intake/head gasket is leaking the coolant will burn up inside the motor and you'd never know it was leaking. More rare would be a cracked head, which I have experienced once over the years.

What could cause a 2003 ford f150 4×4 to overheat going DOWN a mountain.

Engine coasting in an automatic. Reduced air flow through radiator. Water tilted away from the water pump (possibly). Check cooling fan operation, check thermostat, check coolant level, all on flat ground.

Overheating seems to be an issue

I have a 2011 Ford Escape with the code P1299. What is the problem?

Error Code P1299 is defined as Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor Detected Engine Overheating Condition. This means there's an overheat condition, which is caused by multiple factors, such as a faulty thermostat, and low engine coolant.

My 01 ford escape is registering a problem with the radiator light coming on but the temp remains on half.the fan seems to run constantly and sometimes the radiator reservoirbacks up to overfull

I think that your temp gauge or sender is faulty. Check that the radiator isn't blocked with corrosion. Pop the cap when cold and start it. Let it warm until the thermostat opens and make sure that you have plenty of flow in the radiator. If the radiator is blocked, you will get a sudden flow of water out of the cap when the thermostat opens. Another issue can be a broken/corroded water pump impeller.

Where is the coolant pumb in ford escape 2012?

I have a 2012 Escape with the 4cyl engine.
The water (coolant) pump is located on the front of the engine.
This would be on the passenger side of the car. Towards the front, on the passenger side, the top pulley is an idler, the next one down is the water pump.
And yes, the lower radiator hose does attach to the engine right behind the water pump.
The 6cyl Escape may be different.

My 2002 Ford Escape had a new radiator, new thermostat and a new radiator cap but still runs hot. Why?

Hi Nicole:
Now it gets interesting.
- What conditions are you running it under? Like really hot weather and towing a trailer with your pet elephant?
- How long since you had a tune-up? Retarded spark will make engine overheat and give lack of power?
- How do you know it's overheating? Maybe the guage or sender are defective.
- Is there the proper coolant in the engine? Straight water will overheat.
- Is the water pump functioning properly?
- Has a radiator hose collapsed?
- Will Rhett marry Charlotte?
Cheerfuls.

Overheating

if it overheats while driving you water pump or radiator as the likely the culprit. however i would replace the radiator first. it dissapates heat. if it is clogged or fins are gone it can not cool off the rising temps of an engine working harder. it has to be able to have airflow thorough it.
