Question about 2001 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab

I used my 4 wheel drive today on my 2001 Nissan Fronteir. After I took it out of 4 wheel drive I headed down the road. I heard a constant noise so I slowed and put it back in 4 hi. The noise stopped but when I put back in 2 wheel drive it continued. I then stopped and backed up and applied the brakes and when I went forward the noise stopped. What could that noise be? Thanks

where did you hear the noise? is it coming from the engine? or the belt?

That would be the lock for the front axle not disenguaging all the way. it used to be you should do like you did put in reverse, then move forward. look in owners manuel it may be a normal condition.

I own a 2000 Nissan Frontier 4X4. I have not had occasion to use the 4 wheel drive. Can you tell me how to put the truck in 4 wheel drive and take it out? Do not have a manual. Thanks!

Assuming yours is the 2 gear stick layout this is roughly how it works.
ONLY CHANGE BETWEEN 2 AND 4 WHEEL DRIVE WHEN STOPPED, IN NEUTRAL AND WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON!!
The smaller gear shift should be to the left of the normal gearstick.
It should be in the fully forward position. This means it is in 2 wheel drive, high ratio, for normal road driving. (Rear wheels).
Pulling the stick back ONE notch engages 4 wheel drive, high ratio. Used for snowy, icy, slippery conditions as well as light off roading. (Keep the speed under 50mph).
Pushing down and back another notch engages neutral in the transfer box. This means ALL drive is DISCONNECTED even if you use the normal gearbox.
**Try to avoid this one**!!
Pulling the stick back the last notch engages 4 wheel drive, LOW ratio. This is for the more extreme off roading conditions such as VERY steep hills. Not usually used in normal day to day driving.
The two fully forward positions, (2High and 4High), will be the ones used the most.

My Nissan navara dci outlaw has started to make loud scrapping noises for no apparent reason the vehicle runs fine I think it may be to do with the 4 wheel drive as it started after I had used it

check your brakes for wear or foreign object such as a stone in the wheel

Clicking noise goes away when braking

Look at the constant velocity joints on that side. When the rubber boot tears it lets road dirt in which fouls the grease and allows premature wear on the cv joint components.

I have a 2001 jeep cherokee with 4 wheel drive the front right tires is making a grinding noise and when im driving it feels like the car is in 4 wheel drive I put it in 4 wheel drive and the took it out...

DO not use 4wd on dry pavement. do not. its for
ice, snow,or dirt.
if you do that and make a turn , it winds up the driveline. damage.
put in the dirt, at side of road, and get it out of 4wd.
read the manual on part time 4wd, its not AWD and has no center diferental to drive on hard pavement.

ABS LIGHT IS ON WONT GO IN TO FOUR WHEEL DRIVE

Check with a code reader or scanner, the ABS could be at fault

Noise heard under when steering wheel turned 70% to either side. What would it be?

If you mean when making a tight turn, it's probably CV (constant velocity) joints.

Sounds like your wheel bearing went bad and took out the toner ring. Or? Maybe brake pad broke off and did the damage. hard to tell without looking at it..

This is not regular wear and tear. There is a defect in the braking system. Since the problem is with all 4 brakes it would be rare that all 4 calipers would seize at the same time on such a new vehicle. For some reason the fluid line pressure is remaining constant after you let off the brake, keeping the piston in the calipers push out. It's possible you may have a defective Master Cylinder or Power Brake Booster.

Grinding noises when 4x4 is engaged

Most likely wheel bearing or cv joint issue. look for a ripped open cv boot. I believe that year used cv joints instead of regular u-joints. Hope I helped. Thanks

first off you can not de driving down the road and shift into 4 wheel dr. ...... yah have to STOP put in park ,shift into 4 hi then drive do this and let me know how it works for ya........
