Crankshaft sensor location on 2001 oldsmobile

p0131 refers to low voltage reading on the o2 sensor. Should be the bank 1 which is the o2 sensor closest to engine. Inspect wires and/or replace sensor.

Trying to replace the crankshaft position sensor on a 2001 olds intrigue and cannot locate it. Where is it?

Hello suewagner.
The crank sensor is mounted above the starter motor on the firewall side of the engine. The sensor picks up the signal direct off of the crankshaft through a machined hole in the engine block.
I have removed them without dropping the starter but learned that in most cases it is easier to drop the starter down to access it.

. Its above the starter going into the side of the block. (front side of the engine) Disconnect the battery. Remove the starter. Remove the wIre CONNECTOR plug to the sensor. The sensor has 1 bolt holding it in. Remove the bolt, you may have to wiggle the sensor at the base a bit as you pull it out. Replace, and make sure it is pushed in all of the way. Replace the bolt, wire plug, starter, reconnect the battery.
