Hi
My 54 plate daewoo lacetti is showing a malfunction indicator lamp, what is likely to be the cause and will it be expensive to fix???
The check engine light comes only when the computer control unit (called the PCM) senses a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system, there are about 200 possible faults that turn the light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test
Testimonial: "Thanks, You have confirmed what I thought needed to happen, will organise one tomorrow."
Thought I would add that I have had the car at the garage and the oxygen sensor was clogged, this has been cleaned out and I have only to run it on a branded fuel as supermarket fuel has caused the problem, so far - so good.
If this fails then I need a new oxygen sensor, which is not too expensive
Thanks again for the help
I really doubt the diagnosis,. replace the sensor, O2 sensotrs don't clog
The light is no longer illuminated though?? Could the sensor be faulty?? If it is now running properly, should I wait to see if it comes on again or bite the bullet and replace the sensor??
the light may take up to 100 miles to come back on.
the system must complete self testing, this is called a OBD2 Drive Cycle
Thanks, will get the O2 sensor replaced as soon as it comes back on, think he actually said it became contaminated due to additives in supermarket fuel, if that makes any more sense
