1991 Buick Park Avenue transmission issue. 26900 miles, was serviced for the first time 2 years ago and I immediately noticed a slight whining sound in the lower gears. 2 weeks ago hearing a sound difficult to describe but close enough to the sound of a playing card attached to a bicycle wheel. This happens only in first or second gear. A shop told me that there was a drive train chain which is becoming loose causing the noise. Other than this noise transmission performs as one should with 27000 miles. The pan was clean, no metal shavings. Any help out there?? Thx.

If the trans.oil is dark brown in color and smell's burnt your tranny is probably on it's last leg.If tou have bad pump pressure or low oil you will have to rev the eng to get it to build enough pressure to move.Your detent cable or kick down cable is for passing, when you step on the gas when passing someone this cable is pulled causing the trans. to go into a lower gear and when you let off the gas it should shift back into a higher gear.if it's out of adjustment it will kickdown to soon or to late.If your car has alot of miles it may be in need of a filter and fluid change, but usually when slipping occures its to late and you will need a replacement tranny.Hope this was helpfull.

the transmission breaking apart but in a really slow way. There's not a thing that can be done to save it. It's going to someday give out. You can prolong it by not punching on the pedal to test it. just drive it normally and DON"T get the trans oil change. Just leave it alone... I own 89 P/Ave 156,000 original owner. Same thing happened to my car and picked up a used trans at junk yard and my mechanic installed it and runs like a baby at half the price(700.00). If you go to junk yards half of the park ave are because of trans. Good luck

SOURCE: Whine when air conditioner compressor engaged at lower speeds

If it is coming from under the hood(whine)then the ac compressor is either low on oil,or it is about to go out.Sometimes ac compressors will last a good long time, but sometimes they whine right before they lock up.So look for some ac compressor problems.Have a mechanic check it out,but it will most likely need to be changed out(compressor and components).

SOURCE: 1991 Buick Park Avenue- computer problem?

You can find it under the passenger side, below the glove box. Usually, when they fell, you will get mutiply codes that don't make sense, but needs to be tested with a scan tool, Genesis, or Snap on Scanner.

2002 Buick Park Avenue humming noise?

Why would you not diagnose & repair, if necessary, the
ABS/Trac issue, seeing as how your very though on
everthing else.

Resolve the Code related issue first

Change the Power Steering Fluid & add some Lubgard
Additive,no other product to any thing on vehicle except
Lubgard in the trans ,which along with the P/S should be
changed every 3 years

Your noise is the transaxle or alternator, unless you have
some ABS Pump or HCU issues there
