Ticking/Tapping when car starts but goes away???

I have a 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 engine. This past Sunday I started it up and it was really loud, then there was this ticking/tapping noise. It sounds awful when you drive off but after a couple of minutes, the noise goes away. It seems to only do it when the engine is ''cold''

I had what sounds like the exact same problem. It was an exhaust leak from the left (driver's) side exhaust manifold. This engine has a history of the manifold bolts breaking and causing the exhaust leak. The engine is also used on some Dodge vehicles. It sounds like a tick and I almost mistook it for a bad lifter. I took it to the local Jeep dealer who confirmed the exhaust leak. I replaced the left manifold completely and replaced bolts/gaskets on both sides (left/right) and it fixed the problem. Be careful, as the dealer tried to gouge me on the price. You are looking in the ball park of $600 parts/labor. I got parts for $120 and it took the better part of a work day to do the job.

I do not believe this is the problem as my 05 4.7l jeep cherokee does the same thing. the noise is very loud and lasts about 10-15 seconds and originates from inside the dash. i had a friend who is a jeep mechanic take a look and he stated it was a vacuum leak for the "switchover door" to the A/C system. Some jeeps also have this noise problem from the passenger side near the blower motor behind the glove box. This is a problem that needs immediate attention as vacuum leaks will only get worse. it may also be accompanied by problems with air direction (i.e. defrost, feet, face etc..) as mine would only blow from the feet and defrost vents.

2002 grand cherokee engine tapping loudly

My first guess would be a failing valve lifter. They can become weak with age and not able to hold oil pressure.
Especially in an engine with that many miles on the clock.
If the noise is constant you may be able to find out which cylinder by running a compression test. maybe.

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee just started making a clicking or rattling noise when starting up. The noise isn't audiable when driving. I've checked the oil level and it is normal. It is time for an oil change,...

so it goes away after a bit, that could be cause theres no oil on the top part of your engine, thats normal. wait till it gets older, it will be louder.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee makes a loud ticking noise, won't start.

Your problem is likely a bad battery and/or corrosion on the battery terminals. Remove the cables from the battery terminals and clean them with a wire brush or other tool. NOTE: always remove the negative cable first and reconnect it last. Reconnect the cables and then try to start/jump the vehicle again. If that doesn't clear the problem, take the battery to your local auto parts store or supplier and have them check it. You will probably need a new one.

Oil pressure gauge reads normal when first starts. as it warms up, gauge goes to zero. If I rev engine, gauge goes back to normal.

Two things...when it reads zero, is there any engine noise (tapping or knocking)? After you rev the engine does the pressure read normal at idle and function normally, or does it go back down? Either way, you should not drive the vehicle 'till you have a mechanical gauge (yours is electro-mechanical) put on there and the actual pressure is tested. The condition may be a bad sending unit, a bad bearing or possible obstructed oil pump screen. The repair is obviously different for each one and the price is as well.

05 grand cherokee with hemi won;t start.

Does it turn over? If not, try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it. This has worked for my Jeep before.

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee running very loud

I would assume that there is something wrong with your exhaust again. Most likely its the exhuast donut gaskit that goes to the cat converter.

Ticking when started

Those purge sensors are mounted on rubber.
Maybe the rubber is worn out.
