Remove the cv axle from the side you are changing. then on the parrengers side unbolt the housing from the frame and unbolt the housing extension tube from the rest of the housing. the bearrings and seal should be there ready for removal. on the drivers side hook your slide hammer to the axle flange and beat the #$@% out of it. tryy not to pry on the housing it is easy to break. good luck my dad has a 8 lb slide and he has been sliding away for over an hour with no luck, he is ready to pull the housing split it in half and press it out. hope this helps.
i spent 3 years working on 500 gm trucks in Iraq . 99% of this problem had to have the front diff removed and case split the axel had to be hammered out from inside with a punch . the wire keeper that keeps the axel in, spreads and will not allow the axel through the splines . good luck
