Fuel pump relay keeps going bad

Twice over the past 3 months the fuel pump relay kepts going bad, causing the 20 amp fuse to blow. All I had to do is buy a new relay to keep the fuse from blowing. Now nothing happens to 20 amp fuse, but the symptoms are the same. New relays aren't working. Turning the key causes it to click once in the fuse panel, but won't crank the engine. Where do I look to get this car running again?

this is not the fuel pump relay going bad it is the fuel pump going bad, when they start to fail they draw allot current and that is what blows the fuel pump relay fuse.

The fuel pump was replaced about 6 months ago. The electrical symptoms started about 3 months ago. Unless the pump was faulty, I can't believe it could be that. The wiring harness from the pump is so simple.... plug the female connector with the male connector...done. Could the newer pump be placing a heavier demand on the older existing wires running to the front?

I also tested the fuel relays, a brand new one and all the ones I replaced, and they all test the same, all passing. The testing was done according to the procedures posted in Alldata.com..... I bought the subscription today...nice!

how many amps is the fuel pump drawing? if should be less than 15 while it runs, about 20 when it starts.

I'll test it tomorrow... today don't have the correct device I guess. Only gives me Ohms and voltage.

I have a 2010 buick lucerne that keeps drawing to much amps or voltage to the fuel pump relay i replaced it 3 times in the past month i also replaced the fuel pump

About the only thing I can think of would be corrosion in the wire causing a higher amp load to move the current, or a corroded connection. Look for green corrosion at all connections between the relay and the pump.

No voltage to fuel pump

A fuse will blow for 2 reasons . 1) If the device has a Short in the circuit that runs through this fuse. 2) If the device draws more amperage from the power source through the fuse than the fuse will handle. ex. if a fuel pump or starter has a 20 amp fuse and the starter/fuel pump is going bad and draws 30 amps it will blow the fuse. A fuel pump on a 1996 vehicle is located in the fuel tank and is kept cool by the surrounding gas and the gas that flows through it. Overheating a fuel pump is virtually impossible. That being said there is a High probability that replacing the fuel pump and relay will fix this problem. It is quite common for this to occur in the GM vehicle of 1996. When the pump starts to fail, it draws an excessive amount of amperage and would blow the fuse. Hope you find this information useful.

1997 yukon, keep blowing ECM - 1, 20 amp fuse under hood . I had replace fuel pump a few months back, could it be a bad connection on the fuel pump?

i would check wire harness for bare wire but first i would look under that massive fuse box under hood, i kept blowing air cond relay and i traced it back to corroded connection on that fuse. not saying this is it and i hope it is that simple for you. other than that research exactly what the ecm-1 CONTROLS and search, test, grounds those systems. If i can come across any other symptoms i will forward them to you.

Keep blowing 20 amp fuse to fuel pump when turning on sunfire

Fuel pump relay is bad or fuel pump is bad (sometimes the pump seizes) and creates a load thats blowing the fuse.If both are good then there's a short in the fuel pump circuit.
