1999 C1500 Suburban 5.7L Auto transmission 132,500mi, in California. Failed smog "MIL/Check Engine Light" because truck was just worked on at the dealership to replace ignition module and crank sensor. During the repair work, the computers' data was wiped somehow, and now the truck has to be driven to allow the computer to receive all new sensor data and then re-calibrate and adjust everything that the computer controls.
Does this sound right, and exactly what kind and how much driving (and cooling down) is needed to pass smog testing as soon as possible?
No this is not right. If you remove the battery everything resets anyways. If they are talking about relearn procedure, it should only require 50 miles. But if the light is on than either they did something wrong, created another problem, or there was already another one existing. Have the code read and let me know what it is. I'm in Ca too and used to prep european cars for smog, so I do know what I'm looking for. How did the rest do? What were the readings(if possible)?
I took the smog test, passed everything but the MIL/CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, function test was the only thing that failed, what should I fix?
codes are: p0500 speed sensor, p1161 engine oil temp sensor
Vehicle smog test failed Due to NO MIL/check engine light?
