What transmission is in a 1998 jeep grand cherokee laredo

  • Anonymous May 19, 2010

If it's a v8 engine likely its a Chrysler unit (pan is fairly square with the driver rear corner angled). I fit's a 6cyl it probably is an AW4 or a derivative of that unit.

What engine? It could have two different transmissions in it 4.0 usually has a 42re trans and 5.2 usually has a 46re. The 42re has a rectangular pan and the 46re pan is shaped the same but has a protruded edge of the pan on the drivers side front edge.

How does one add transmission fluid to 1995 jeep grand cherokee laredo?

Look for the dipstick where you check the transmision fluid level. If you need any you pour it down the dipstick hole. Add it in small amounts and check in between additions, its really easy to overfill. Once overfilled a real pain to get it out.

Can i use a transmition from 1998 grand cherokee laredo 4wd to a jeep laredo 1998 4.0 4wd. will work same trnsmition?

Hi Jose, I've never tried but if you go visit a breakers yard and compare the physical dimensions of both boxes and they match up, there is no reason why they should not. Most manufactures use the same units in a variety of models and if you've found a similar vehicle with identical uses the parts are most likely interchangeable. Regards John
