Vw 2001 Passet- Squeaks very badly over bumps in the road and speed bumps only on the left side. Have had the bearings cv axel struts and mounting rods small pad in there changed (and a couple other small parts that I am not sure of what there calld)and the shop its at still has no clue what to do? Its been there 2 wks and they have no idea what it could be. Do you?
I don't.
I have spent many hours chasing elusive car noises over the last four decades, mostly with success.
Most of those noises were troublesome because they were intermittent and could not be duplicated in the workshop.
I think one of the most difficult to trace was the most horrible noisy vibration that would seem to run right through the car sometimes. It was as if some serious mechanical disaster was happening. The cause when I found it (by accident) was a front mudguard that rested on the front indicator lamp instead of having a small clearance between them.
When a noise can be duplicated in the workshop by bouncing or rocking, with the aid of a mechanics stethoscope and sensitive fingers, locating the general area of a squeak is a mere formality though pinpointing can take a little longer.
Track rod ends and ball joints can cause very loud squeaks as can some of the rubber bushes.
Replacing parts in the vague hope of curing a noise is expensive desperation. Unless you gave specific instructions to have those items replaced your money should be refunded. I suggest you change your repairer as any repairer that replaces stuff without prior justification shouldn't be in business.

That sounds about right, the idle speed may not even be manually settable due to emissions regulations.
I know for sure you can't adjust the idle mixture anymore; that is determined by sensors and the on-board computer.
There may still be adjustments on some cars but they are often sealed with lead to avoid tinkering.

I'm dealing with the same car. I just had the transmission completely overhauled. Very$$$. The mechanic told me that it's common for cabrio's to develop this problem between 80,000 and 100,000 miles, mine happened around 95,000 miles. Knowing what I know now, I would have sold it.
SOURCE: need to replace front left cv axel
Best approach is to acquire a repair manual for that vehicle. Pep Boys or similar will likely have one..
SOURCE: seperate outer cv from axel 99 chevy metro
to me this is a simple job, I didn't mean to sound insulting but having never done one i fixed a friends car with a bad CV joint, I found a rebuild kit with new joint ball bearings and grease boots, removing the joints is straight forward, clean the grease out of the joint to see the spring clip that holds it to the axle shaft splined end, to remove the stub end of axle from the steering knuckle undo the axle nut (u need a new one of these) and the unbolt the strut from the knuckle of course the brake caliper and the disk must also be removed, try to push the axle out and swing the knuckle out of the way, you may need to undo the tie rod as well.
