Will a engine from a 1989 work and bolt up to the 1991 TERCEL

the sender unit is located in the engine block close to the oil filter , it has the appearance of a bolt head with wires protruding from it

It has a mechanical fuel pump that is bolted to the engine block. Follow the fuel lines from the carburetor and they will lead you to the fuel pump.

under hood, drivers side, upper engine area,engine end of upper radiator hose, mounted in coolant outer housing

If its worth it to you and the car is in good shape find a motor cheap get it and have an authorized mechanic install it.Look on ebay and craigslist.com under parts.

Hello vienotkelly: The correct Main bolt torque is 42 foot pounds. The connecting rods torque to 29 foot pounds. The torque sequence for the head bolts and the correct way to tighten the bolts are attached to this reply. Thak You for using FixYa. Roger

Head Bolts Step 1-33 Ft. Lbs. Step 2- Additional 90 Degrees

sounds like the wiring was repaired and someone tapped into the headlight circuit instead of the parking light circuit

I think maybe that you have a plugged catylitic converter. When cats get plugged they get hot, very hot. If there is anything onit ie. dirt, road oil, anything at all, it will burn it off. The best thing I can suggest is loosen the bolts upstream of the cat and remove the dougnut gasket. replace the bolts and drive the car. if it runs better then replace the cat. It will be loud, but we just want to look at power and idle.

I just went thru this on mine... it is easiest to get to from the bottom right corner... remove the shields and it's right there... take the lower adjustment bolt out , the upper rear bolt and the upper outer bolt out , drop it down and swap wires and replace . Tip; a shorty phillips screw driver works well to allign the holes on the upper rear bolt. DO NOT tighten any of the bolts untill they are all in.
