I HAVE A 2003 SAAB 9-3. i CALLED THE SAAB DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE ABOUT A TRANSMISSION FLUSH AND WAS TOLD THEY ONLY EMPTY AND FILL-THERES NO NEED FOR A FLUSH. WHAT IS THIS ABOUT AND WHAT IS THE...

its a play on words.....when you say flush, you mean pump trans oil in and let it run to clean out any gunk inside the box.SAME AS emptying and refilling with a filter change.(when you flush a cooling system you fix a garden hose to the lower heater hose and remove the rad cap, thats a real flush.......reverse flow.)

When the preform the transmission service they will drain you transmission of its ATF fluid an replace it with new fluid. It is essentially an oil change for your transmission.

Lots of forgein car dealers say no but ive own and service nissan toyota and i dont change the fluid because you never get all the old oil out and then you mix new and old, what we do is called a trany flush done with a bg flush machine and is done every 30,000 miles unless its syntheic trany oil then at 100,000 miles, the flush is done with a cleaner and then a conditioner and removes 100% of the old oil. hope this helps.

1997 buick century 84500 miles regular maintanance, oil change every 3000 miles. son taking trip in it. never had radiator flushed, plugs changed, transmission fluid changed, should i have concerns on...

Yes, this is very important maintenance procedures. Transmission should be serviced (filter, oil, and oil pan gasket replaced) @ 60K miles, plugs at 100K miles (I'd replace them early for better gas mileage), and radiator flushed @ 60K miles. Hopefully this helps!!

General maintenence

Use sludge protectant oils and change transmission fluid often. Do all the maintenance on time or before. Like differential fluids and etc. look in your service manual on what to do and do it in time.

Automatic transmission fluid is grey and smells burnt. Tranny has 256k original miles on it. 1999 saab 9-5

is sounds like your transmission fluid has overheated. Simply needs the fluid and the filter to be changed on the transmission.

When do I change the transmission fluid in my 2003 Highlander?

If the fluid smells burnt or is black, replace fluid. Manufacturer suggests that you inspect it at every 30,000 mile interval. I would suggest having it flushed every 75,000 miles as a normal maintenence.
