Does a 2003 ford ranger 2.3 liter have a chain, gear, or timing belt?

The 2.3 uses a timing belt with an tension idler adjustment. Replacement is straight forward, just make sure to mark upper and lower cog pulleys before removing the old belt so that you can keep the timing in sync.

On a 2000 ford super duty does the cab have to come off to remove cylinder head

No it does not. Your engine should either be the V8, V10 gasser or the 7.3 ltr diesel. All of these engines have timing and gears in the front side of the engine. The only ones that will need the cab removed or pulling the engine is the trucks equipped with the 6.0 liter engine as they have the gearing on the back side of the engine. These started in 2003 and went until 2007 I believe.

I just replaced the front cover of a 2003 Ford, Ranger, 2.3

there are no timing specs for that vehicle, the vehicle pcm does all of that. always mark your gears and chains when you take them off. if you just replaced the cover and thats it, there should be no reason why you would have to set the timing-
