Have 2007 Santa Fe which I love - problem: Drove thru puddle about 3 months ago - Battery light came on & lost power steering, but after 1 minute, batt light off & steering fine... Then, on very wet road 1 month later, same problem which cleared within seconds... Today, bad thunderstorm & very wet road - Same problem, battery light on & no power steering BUT no resolution - did not lose any other power except steering - had to drive 30 miles to service station - Guy pullls of "crank pulley" and says the entire rubber gasket stripped and I'm lucky I didn't lose all power as everything runs off this belt!!! Car has 38,000 miles - I was 200 miles from home [in upstate NY] & had to rent car as the part was not immediately availble anywhere except Columbus OH and have to wait 2 days - Yikes! Is this common with Santa Fe [crank pulley/steering] during wet weather?

The crank pulleys (also called a harmonic dampener) on these vehicle are a fairly common failure. as they begin to break apart, the pulley will begin to have a wobble as the engine runs, causing the drive belts that power your alternator, power steering, etc to loosen off. when the belts then get wet, combined with being loose, they will slip, causing your accessories not to work. hope this was helpful!

Testimonial: "Thx ottawa tech - that makes sense... My major concern was that part was not readily available-Is that common? Also car is "young" - problem?"

the failure is a little premature, but not unheard of. the availability of the part depends completely on where you are, how good the guy is at the garage is at hunting for parts, etc. but i do believe it is a dealer only part.

2002 Hyundai Santa Fe. I went through a puddle and now it won't start.

Your vehicle should not stop when it goes through a puddle. Did someone take off the underbody engine skirt? That protects the engine from splashes.

The drag when starting sounds like the battery needs charging. If the voltage drops to 11 volts whilst cranking there is not enough power for the electronic fuel injection. If you have a battery charger, charge the battery in the car for 8 hours, don't remove it or you will have other things to deal with like car radio code and resetting the security and engine immobilizer. If that doesn't work, you need an auto -electrician with a Pro Grade Scan Tool computer. It will diagnose in 30 minutes!

I drive though a puddle of water and the battery light come on and I losre power steering. I put a serpintine belt on about two years ago

mcdevito75 here, Chances are your driveing too fast thru puddles, water is getting on the belt causeing it to slip and water also hittind electricall system, cils / Alternator etc. go slower thru puddles, better yet avoid them as you could get stuck.

2007 Santa Fe. Brake lights and battery light come on when steering wheel is turned hard to the lef tor to the right. Lights go off when wheels pointed straight ahead. Rough sounds from motor. Very hard to...

There are a number of problem mentioned on the internet about brake problems and brake calipers seizing up. Smoke and smell from the right front wheel might lead a person to believe there is the best place to start looking.

1. Brake Light Came On 2. Steering got stiff

Check your belt/tensioner, and alternator. Either the belt has no tension or your alternator has gone bad.
