It is ALOT cheaper to get the security fault repaired then to try to bypass the system. It is a veryyyy time consuming task and doesn't always work.

thanks bro joseph, then how to repair this problem? security?

  • Joseph Howard Oct 29, 2012

Most of the time it is the very thin wiring coming off lock cyl in column down to the module Replace lock cylinder asembly and turn key on for 5 minutes turn off and it should start. Wires seperate up at lock cylinder usually you can see it if you pull it out of column

The 5 minute key on engine off is for module to learn new key code after turning off let wait about 30 seconds to try to start.

Starts everytime and shuts right down? Usually an indication of the security system. I had to bypass a 98 Malibu because of this. A lot of those era Chevys had problems. Check the videos on it. I don't know exactly what one your car has. 2005 impala security bypass YouTube

Bypass security system

depends on design on unit, on most you can simply disconnect system power and youre good to go. other in line systems require un installing the unit. either way sounds like the system is causing more problems than its solving. i would suggest removing it entirely

Need to bypass security syestem on 95 olds cierra car wont stay running after changing ignition

The security icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well.

Factory Security System Wont Allow Car To Start

It is common practice to "bypass" only a section of the VATS system and believe you have gotten it all. Go to this link for info and the better way to bypass the system.

Had ignition switch replaced and within 4 mtns,it went out again. The mechanic said the security system sensor was burning out the switch so he un-hooked the wire to the security system and bypassed it and...

The problem might be your Vats security system. This causes the car to either "not start" or "shut down" while running, or start for 5 seconds and then die. (depending on the system) If the security light flashes, i guarantee that this is what the problem is. 1st trick, (if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. I did this in my regal for more than a year.

Cheap fix: Bypass the chip in your key. Temporary, but effective.

Never worry again fix: Bypass the whole VATS/Passlock/passkey I or passkey II system entirely. Literally take it out, and throw it away. I just did this in my Regal. Took about an hour. Took longer to find the thing than it did to fix the problem. For a list of cars effected by this problem. See the NEWROCKIES link on the right side of their page.........

----- With this fix, you can take that whole Vats, passlock, passkey **** system out of your car all together. Good info on both sites

11000 miles car just clicks no start never had any starting problem before 2 days before radio and onstar did not work and no sound from turn signials ? when car was restarted same day everything worked?

I think it is related to the GM security system. If your ignition key has the little chip or resistor in it, then this could be the problem. The system is unreliable and stops working without any warning. When it malfunctions, it shuts down the starter. If that is in fact what has happened, the dealership will want $1000 to fix it, unless, of course you still have warranty. The following website has a bypass system that works. Visit the website and read about the problems with the security system and the bypass: http://newrockies.ca/vatsbypass.
