Question about 1996 Nissan Altima

Nissan Altima 1996 Engine stalls,it starts it only 2 hours later

I have Nissan Altima 1996 4 cylinders. It has the problem: engine starts and the car moves about 10 minutes. After 5-10 minutes the engine stalls and doesn't start again. However, after 2-3 hours I'm able to start the engine again, but after 5-10 minutes of driving the car stalls.

    there was a loose contact on one of sensors.

Is there any engine warning lights coming on if not when was the last full tune-up, plugs wires all filter's , if not or don't know ty that.

Check the fuel pressure, make sure it doesn't bleed down after the car sits, that causing long crank times/hard starting.

Hi, the gauges on my altima all stopped working then about a mile later the engine stopped as well but you can cut it off and it will start back it is a 2001
Sound like you are saying the RPM gauge dropped then a mile later the engine stalled and was able to restart you can be looking crank sensor beggining to fail and it usually fails on the freeway without warningcansmo_126.gif

1998 nissan altima 4 cylinder motor. The engine will not rev over 2000 rpms. Engine struggles to accelerate and quits.
There is a internal distributor failure, does it start easy. Check the distributor pigtail connection 98 are prone to connection failure

Location of knock sensor on a 1996 Nissan Altima GXE engine?
The knock sensor is underneath the intake manifold on the rear of the engine.
If you got an engine check code from Autozone or some other goof ball company like that go and get a full tank of the highest quality gas and see if that fixes the problem.

1996 nissan altima engine stalls when going uphill
If you recently replaced the battery, you may need to reset the idle air control valve setting. This is done by removing the NEGATIVE battery wire from the battery while the vehicle is HOT. Then you must wait several hours for the vehicle engine to become cold. Next, once could, reconnect the negative cable. Start the vehicle, place your foot on the brake and imediately put the vehicle in drive. Stay in that situation until the vehicle engine bcomes hot to normal temperature range. This will be known by hearing the radiator cooling fan turning on. You must NOT use the airconditioner during this cause it will be on during the event. Once accomlplished place in park and allow the engine to cool, engine off. This resets the engine computer to tell the idle/load speed control valve to add air and resuling in additional fuel to the engine under various torque loads.
