Turn your steering wheel in laft or right directions they lock automatically turn it it will unlock and allow you to turn the key but do both at same time turn wheel little bit then turn key while holding wheel in that possition. if not then push key inward while turning maybe it has one of them goofy switches. last but not least replace ignition switch if those dont work.

Key won't come out of ignition on 1999 vw jetta

IGNITION KEY WILL NOT RELEASE

It can be faulty ignition lock cylinder. I suggest to wiggle the steering wheel a bit and see if the key gets released out. If that is not helping then first turn steering wheel to right and try removing the key, or next turn steering wheel to left and see if you can remove the key.

----------

Spray wd-40 in the ignition key hole and let it remain there for few minutes, after that once again try to remove the key and see if that helps.

---------

But if that is not helping then ignition lock cylinder has to be removed out and key has to be manually removed.

I have a 98 dodge caravan and when i put the key

You may have to get a new key cut if the tumblers in the ignition lock are not being lined up to unlock the ignition. If the key's was bent in the ignition lock, the ignition lock may be bad and need to be replaced with a new ignition key. Try replacing the ignition key's first, but if you have a spare key. Try that first and if the spare key's don't turn the ignition lock, then you may have to replace the ignition lock. Good luck and keep me posted. oh and try moving the steering wheel left to right as you try to turn the ignition lock.
