2004. Why is it emitting black smoke?

Is your vehicle a petrol or a diesel? Black smoke is a sign your engine is burning a fuel mixture that is too rich, (Too much fuel, not enough air). Start by replacing the AIR filter. After that you need to get the fuel injectors checked. If yours is a diesel have the EGR valve checked as a sticky valve isn't diverting unburnt fuel back through the fuel system.

you are going to have to plug in a diagnostic reader and find out what the problem is or to shut off the light . You could also drive it for 300KM and it should reset itself

Check engine light solid

Most of the newer vehicles have a senser that will turn the check engine light on, even when it's time to change the oil. After they change it, they reset the check engine light to turn it off. It could be something as simple as that or even an air filter needing to be changed. The dealer can tell you how to reset that light to turn it off. Good luck!

2006 ford f350 diesel truck

it could just be the filter, diesels are sensitive to air needs, but if the check engine light is on a quick scan will point the problem out..

spray some carb cleaner down the breather pipe the carb could be clogged up so it is not opening properly and choking the engine or flush out your feul they may be dirty and your not getting enough fuel through when you need it or your air intake senser might need changing cus if your air/fuel mix is wrong your engine will stall

My first Desiel

The most critical things in owning a diesel are the air and fuel filters. Irregardless of what the owner's manual may say change the fuel filters at least twice a year, spring and fall because the oil companies change their additives in the fuel twice a tear. The air filter should be done at least once a year. Keep a close eye on the water in fuel warning and fix it when it shows up, your owner's manual should have the steps to take. Most diesel's call for 15-40 diesel oil, there's no reason not to stay with it. Pick up a copy of Haynes Diesel Engine Repair Manual, part # 10330.It will save you a lot of time, money and headaches. It costs about $20 at the auto parts store.
Before you make any decisions to start tinkering with it to increase power do your research. Diesel's work well because everything is balanced and even though supplier's may claim you won't have to change anything else, don't bet on it. Bank's is a reliable authority on diesel performance to judge decisions on. Hope this helps.

Fuel filter on a 6.2 diesel

You need to install an electric fuel pump to lift the fuel from the tank to the mechanical pump. You can turn off the electric pump after starting or use it when bleeding the lines after changing the fuel filter. You can start the truck after a few minutes instead of a few days. I know from experience and fought that problem for years.
