I have a 1997 Lincoln MarkVII that seems to run great but for a little problem. When I'm coasting at a consistent speed, especially at about 35 and 60 mph the engine's rpms rev up about 100-250 briefly and randomly. It's more noticable when cruise is on. Also, when the car is in park and idling, the same thing occurs. Now, the engine doesn't run rough or loud so it's not that noticable. I also have a battery light on the dash that goes off and on. The Lincoln dealership said that there are no electrical issues and they have no idea why that light is randomly on and off. I don't know if these two issues coincide or not. The dealership also said that the car's diagnostic is reporting no issues. The person that owned this car told me that he had driven it around like this for a long time with no further issues. I just want to see what it could be to try and get rid of my small problem. I bought it about 1 month ago and it was last at the dealership last November. The previous owner said the issue was there before he took it in and that the mechanic didn't notice any surging rpm issue. Possibly because it's so small. Please help!!!

With engine idleing , open the hood , and watch (and listen) if the Air Conditioning compressor is cycling off and on , off , and on........
