I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid with a 3.2L V6 engine. Recently the AC belt broke. I replaced the AC belt and about a week later the car started over heating and had an slight leak of antifreeze from an unknow location. The newly replaced AC belt had started to break again. Also neither the heat or the Air conditioning was working. All I was getting was room temperature air on both settings. Whats wrong? I believe its the thermostat.
Hey Ninja,,, a bad thermostat will not cause the belt to break,,. BUT a locked up A/C compressor will, anything that is locked up or not freely working will cause the belt to break.. MAYBE the water pump is locked up and you are forcing it to try to turn.. this will give you the symptoms you describe..

heating and cooling fans are generally one and the same. changing freon doesn't always fix the problem... did you have the system pressure checked for leaks first.
Second determine if the vents are opening properly (switching from heat to cooling) basically when you change to cool it closes air access to the heater core.

if you are sure that your heater core is not restricted. then try to recalibrate the climate control panel. if your a/c system is not working then DO NOT ATTEMPT THE RECALIBRATION it will make your lights on climate control panel flash codes forever.
to reclaibrate the climate control panel just have the engine running. turn the mode to vent, the temp to cold, the blower on high, then press and hold the rear wiper wash and wiper buttons at the same time until the panel lights up then wait about 2 minutes for it to run completly when completed. turn off ignition and then restart the engine try to se if you have heat again. if it doesntwork post the codes it gives you after the calibration test.

I have the same problem with my Durango AC. I called the dealer and they do have clutch for my compressor available. I wonder how big of a job it can be. I got my A/C Charged thinking I am low on compressor gas only to find out after 135 dollars that it is my clutch that is not engaging. Cost of new compressor and labor factor added to it get to be a scary sum of money for 1998 model. Any one knows how to replace this clutch? Is it the front bold that is holding the entire clutch? Help amin
