2004 Volkswagen Passat Logo

I have a 2004 VW Passat(100000) and there was oil found on the compression hose? I never had any problems with my oil, regularly changed it(synthetic) but last time when the oil pan was replaced -the oil-almost all of it disappeared-not by leaking- so per my mechanic the turbo might go soon.Any suggestions?

Lift the hood, point toward the windscreen, and down,on side of the block there is a oil pan/sump breather(about 3" X 2") make sure it is washed out in gas and dried ,some "mechanics"dont even bother to do this every service" cos there are lots of suckers out there that will pay for anything"and tell you its something else.
(charge you $100 for a 50c job...what is a compression hose??

the compresion hose is the large black tube running between the turbo and the air intake(compressed air)oil will show in this tube if the turbo bearings are starting to go,but the oil pan breather feeds into this tube as well .................but before the turbo,so it is possibly the breather(cheapest alternative).all turbos whistle, its the air flow.if you are using oil and can smell it out the exhaust pipe or the pipe is really black then you could need another turbo.

Is there a whistle from the turbo when accelerating if so the baering could be on the way out in the turbo.or blue smoke when accelerating could also be a sign.a blocked air filter would also cause it to **** oil through to the compression hose.

A knocking sound on my 98 vw passat engine and a ticking sound on the upper engine side - help

I fear the news is probably not good. Many Passats around 1998-2004 were badly affected by engine sludge even when oil changes were done regularly.

http://www.thecarconnection.com/news/1049827_settlement-addresses-engine-sludge-issue-in-audi-a4-vw-passat

These noises usually mean that oil starvation has caused an engine bearing to fail, and also excessive wear in the camshaft area. If the sump is removed the sludge (if there) will be seen.

Engine ceased VW 2004 passat 4cyl. 59k, multiply oil changes from local garage, VW too expensive engine ceased. called VW they want to change me to see the car. What shoud lI do?

Let them see the car.

Did you check to see if the vehicle actually had oil in it? Sometimes small shops forget to put oil in or forget to put the oil plug back on.

It may be less expensive to go to your local corner garage at first, but now look at what it is going to cost you.

You may be able to find this engine in the scrap or junkyard. Look for a car that has rear end damage. This indicates that the engine is still good and none of the seals have been shifted because of the damage. Front end damage may cause seals to shift and have an oil leak

Oil in the intake manifold air hose...

This is usually an indication of "blowback" caused by worn piston rings. How many miles on the engine? There is not a cheap solution if it is blowback.

2003 VW Passat Malfunction Indicator Lamp on

I have a 2003 Passat GLX V6 and i havent been experiencing this issue, however from my experience with VW, the early 2000 models of the passat that have a 1.8T 4 cylinder engine have a major issue with what has been deemed "oil sludge" you have to be careful with this engine oil wise and make sure to get the oil changed every 3,500 - 4,500 miles and make sure you get the full synthetic oils for it and the proper filters :-) the turbo that is on this model heats up the oil to extreme temperatures and if not serviced regularly you will have problems.... i hope this helps! i would have someone check it again for this issue... hopefully you get to it before it becomes costly!

I have a VW passat estate on a 51 plate, when the engine is cold the gear change is fine yet the further I go the harder it is to change gear

I experience the same problem in my '03 passat TDI130 5dr. Gearchange when hot became increasingly baulky.

VW Checked this out, linkages, clutch hydraulics etc were fine.

Solution was to have the Gearbox Oil changed. This cost about £65 and was using VW052 transmission fluid.
