There is no such relay instead check the "Auto Shutdown Relay" and the Fuel pump relay. Have you checked the fuses? You can temporarily jumper either or both of these relays by using a small jumper wire to jump from terminal 30 to terminal 87 if the wiring is good the pump has to run if it's good. I hope this helps. Take Care.
Check to make sure the check engine light is coming on, on the dash, when you turn the ignition switch on. If it is not coming on, try leaving the ignition on for a few minutes to see if that light does come on and the jeep starts then. If so, then your ecu computer is in need of repair.
You need to find out what is missing at the time that it is not starting. You are either not getting ignition (spark) or not getting fuel.
A real common problem for Jeep 4.0L engines is bad crankshaft position sensors and bad connections at the crankshaft position sensor connectors. When these mess up, you will have a "No Spark" condition. I would check the connector and make sure it is clean and tight before running out and spending money on buying a new crank sensor - especially if this Jeep has been operated in mud and/or water.
The only other suggestion I have is to check the fuel pressure when it is not starting. You could have a fuel pump or a fuel pump relay that works only when it wants to.
The ECM does control fuel delivery as well as fuel injectors. Unplug the cable from the ECM first and check for any corrosion. Spray with electrical contact spray and reset the plug firmly in the ECM.
Check to see if the fuel pump is running after it shuts down...could be a relay or the pump itself (overheating internally) Checked the fuel filter yet? Some crank sensors need to be shimmed. If it's too close to the flywheel even though you recently changed it, if it's too close to the wheel it can fail again. May not be the case but worth checking over. Also check the ceramic resistor on the left fender near the master cylinder if you have one. That too can cause problems.
Well, other than the pump, I would say nothing, because you said you can't hear the pump prime when you turn it on. Unless you have a wire loose or fuse blown.
Likely it's not the pump. but I would check the filter. Spark is controlled on some by a spark control unit, also by a coil inside the distributor that serves as a cam position sensor. I suggest you get a basic manual like chiltons or haynes and a decent volt/ohm meter and following procedures they outline, test each component. You will spend some money on them but will find them useful many times in the future and far cheaper than guessing and buying parts you don't need. have you checked the pump relay?
