Own a 2008 pontiac torrent gxp ''check gas cap'' message appears and service engine soon light illuminates ive already replaced gas cap but service engine soon light is still on. does anyone know how to reset the system??? its kinda retarted no being able to use remote start because of this!!!

It could or could have electric power sterring , look up under the dash below the steering wheel an see if it has a electric motor on the steering column .
Power Steering System Description and Operation (with EPS)
The Electric Power Steering (EPS) system reduces the amount of effort needed to steer the vehicle. The system uses the power steering control module (PSCM), torque sensor, power steering motor rotational sensor, power steering motor, discrete battery voltage supply circuit, and the GMLAN serial data circuit to perform the system functions. The PSCM and power steering motor are each serviced separately from the steering column assembly. However, the motor rotational sensor is serviced as part of the power steering motor, and the torque sensor is serviced as part of the steering column assembly. The PSCM also monitors vehicle speed from the engine control module (ECM) via the GMLAN serial data circuit. At low speeds more assist is provided for easy turning during parking maneuvers. At higher speeds less assist is provided for improved road feel and directional stability.

Which engine does it have ? Their are five different ones your vehicle could have come with . Probably under the coils in the center of the cylinder heads . Mite be a video on youtube show how to replace them .

The driver information center (DIC) illuminates the SERVICE VEHICLE SOON indicator when the powertrain control module (PCM) or the engine control module (ECM) detects certain malfunctions that are not related to the emissions system. You should have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ! Unless related to a emission problem the check engine light won't come on . But can still set a code in the PCM

Probably a sensor. I would just drive it.

Ex wife had similar prolems. Check ignition switch and/or check gas cap for proper seal.

Someone will need to figure out if it is the gauge on the dash or the sending unit inside the gas tank.

You need wiring diagrams & professional scan tool
software to work on it

Codes have nothing to do with parts replacement

Without the requires reference material & proper
test equipment, you can't do anything

Can't even find a possible problem, if you don't know
the how the system works, or how to test things

While I never recommend a dealer, that might be the quickest
solution for you.

Doubt a local shop is too familiar with AWD on many vehicles,
car at least,trucks they probably figured out

The fuel filter is part of the primary fuel pump assembly, located inside of the fuel tank. It is not replaceable separately from the fuel pump. It does not have a service interval and cannot be separated from the pump.

P0496 is not alisted code.

05? fluid already low...follow your belt that goes around , well that turns your crank shaft air con. ect. each one of these has a pully (a wheel for the belt) one of those should be your power steering..if not some may even be on the side wall..make sure it says some thing about power steering fluid on the cap.
