Wait 10 minutes after you shut the car off - then remove the negative side of the battery - wait 30 minutes then reinstall and run the car 30 minutes.
If your cooling fluid is full and other cooling systems are in place and working - you should be fine.

The fan on your cooling system is made to continue to run once the engine is shut down if it is running a little [ or a lot] hot. So don't panic if it runs 5 minutes after you shut the car off.

I have a 1997 catera and when i start it sometimes there is a loud noise that sounds like a vacuum coming from the front but it doesnt seem to be coming from the engine what could this be?

That noise is the electric air pump the location is not in the engine compartment but in the front under the bumper this only operate for 1 minute on cold start the purpose is to warm up the catalytic convertor this is a emission device.If the car is already warmed up and you turn off the vehicle and restart it wont come on.Its only for cold start ups.

My 97 catera gets hot through town why isn't the fan working all fuses are good? where is the thermostat?

You may be low on rad fluid and have an air pocket where the fan sensor is located. Check the fluid level.

Have a 97 catera, cooling fan is always running, thinking that it may be the thermastat. if it is, where is the thermastat located? heat is warm, not hot.

if the cooling fan is always running its a temp. sensor you will have to consult a repair manual to find the correct sensor

My catera wont start. I turn the key and have power but nothing happens when I turn it. Not even clicking or the starter turning. has new battery and plenty of juice

Check the starter maybe needs to be replace and check the carbon of the starter.

you wont?? without the key you will not be able to remove the barrell.their are two headless bolts that shear off when its fitted ,if you can behind them and tap them around to slacken them with a centre punch then your lucky ??other than that remove the steering column and cut it off ,i take it the lock has jammed up ?? and will not turn .

My ac and heater wont blow out air but yet all my fans are working under the hood.

you have a blower motor inside the dash that blows inside air. You will need to start by finding the fuse labled blower motor, and maybe a relay........

your problem is a very big one. you gonna have to do alot of trouble shoot. check for gas pressure, check for spark ignition, make sure the vehicle is getting air. manually check the engine.

make sure you have full coolant level, when you turn on AC the fans in front should come on. probably need a new thermostat. good luck
