What kind of code scanner do i need for 1995 pontiac grand prix se 3.1 litre

Without a scanner to interact with the computer, not much.

How are you going about trying to get codes? You need an OBII scanner to get codes.

put the key in trun it on do not try and start it just trun it on. leave it on of 20 min.s then trun key off and try to start this should reset the computor.

maybe a water pump.

Depends on what sub-model you have. If you have an SE its a 3100 3.1L Engine. If its a GT its a 3800 3.8L Engine. If its a GTP its a 3800 3.8L but with a supercharger.

this is part of the gear position switch on top of the trans where the shift linkage connects, it is mounted over the selector post that sticks out of the trans. Here is a picture.
