Replace with a used engine or a branded rebuilt engine (like jasper or ATK) or...junk it. This is an expensive job and many mechanics do not perform this type of work well, leaving you greatly dis-satisfied. Scrap value is high now and you can get some cash for it quickly and conveniently.

How to find out if loud knocking is piston or thrown rod, plus battery will not stay charged. This all happened after backfire and blown muffler

The only way to determine what it is would be to remove the sump from the motor, Either way you need another motor as the cost to repair will be greater than the cost to replace.

Have a 03 matrix with a oilpump promblem I think, bought the car last week ran good next day was drive on highway notice oil lap on and noise from motor ,slowed down light went off.Next day change oil and...

Generally three things can turn the light on. First is the sending unit itself if it's going bad. Next is an obstruction of the pump pickup screen (usually hard carbon deposits). Third is worn engine bearings (usually rod bearings). Best way to find the problem is to have someone put a mechanical pressure gauge on the engine and read the actual pressure. If it's low you need to go into the engine to determine why. if it's normal, replace the sending unit. Senders aren't terribly expensive and you could just buy one and replace the one you have, providing the engine isn't tapping or knocking.

Car ran out of oil..i was told i blew the bareings.had them replaced but car has a ticking noise and will not go faster than 40 mph without sounding horrible

You could have thrown a rod, but you could also check the spark plugs to make sure they have a good fit. If one of them is not appropriately tightened it could make a loud sound.

My 1995 cadillac northstar engine has locked up can it be fix by replacing the oil pump?

No, you cannot. If it has locked up due to no oil, then you are looking at a rebuild, and maybe even a total engine replacement because of the nature of the catastrophic failure.

No oil means the bearings had no lubrication, which chewed them up, as well as the crankshaft journals - Cam lobes, and maybe the connecting rod came apart and busted a hole in the block?

You could price a low mile motor from the same car at an auto recyclers - would be the best and cheapest way to go as long as you have a good mechanic that will thoroughly inspect the replacement motor before it is purchased and installed.

Good Luck.

How to fix a 1997 chevy blazer thrown rod

The cheapest and easiest way to repair it is to replace the engine with one from a salvage yard. Most reputable yards will give you a limited warranty (ask what it is before you buy). Otherwise you are looking at a total rebuild on your current engine ($1500-$2000). Hope this helps.

Yea,I turned my car on and I have this annoying clicking sound what is it?

It could be a valve clicking. Try checking the oil, alot of time if the car is low on oil it will cause them to click. If that's not it, then you may need to take it to a local, dependable mechanic to see if the valve can be adjusted, if they can't you need to replace the head. The other thing it may be is that it has thrown a rod. Keep an eye on the oil pressure to see if it keeps good pressure. If it doesn't you may need a new motor.

I have a 1990 gmc jimmy and it quit while in motion, i heard a cruching sound as if i ran over somthing. I tried to jump with no avail, starter kicks in good but still wont turn over. I had the engine...

Hello,
Sounds like you could have thrown a rod, or cracked a piston. Could even have spun a cam bearing if you used the old cam during a rebuild. What you can do is see if you have any oil pressure. If you have good oil pressure then your cam bearing is fine. After that, you'll have to drop the oil pan and see if anything has blown up inside the motor.
This has nothing to do with the sound, but its always good to check. Check to see if you have spark. Take a spark tester and crank the motor over and see if the tester shows any signs of spark. If you dont have spark, see if you getting any spark from the coil the same way you checked the plugs. If no spark there either you will need a new distributer.
If the motor wont spin over at all like its locked up, your motor may be blown. You will have chunks of metal in the oil in the oil pan once you drop it. Also, you can see signs of wear if the oil is a metallic looking substance. Hope this helps.

How can I tell if I threw a rod on my chev 454 RV engine ?

You can remove your valve covers to inspect the rocker arms, and push rods. They should be all in place and not too loose. If you find nothing out of place on the top side of the engine, you will have to look to the lower end. From there, you may have to remove the engine to inspect the rods; I doubt you can remove the oil pan while the engine is in the vehicle.
