Heater blower resistor gets very hot

Part 2. Found a blown fuse that prevented my heat/ac from working (Thanks, Walker!), but the Heater Blower resistor's ceramic element is VERY hot. Not familiar with these. It IS next to the blower, so maybe the fan cools it, but I am concerned that if I use the blower, it will pop the fuse and/or melt something. Am I worrying about nothing here, or do I still have work to do?

Its got a bank of resistors and it will get hot. The fuse blowing out may just be a fluke thing. Replace the fuse (with the proper size)and run it normally, The fuse is in the system and is designed to burn out long before any real damage can occur,

Testimonial: "Thanks stevemcgraw1. I am at ease now. Going to re-check the value of the fuse with the manual and check the draw from the blower. Cheers!"

The speed of the blower motor is controlled by adding resistance into the circuit. The lower the fan speed the hotter the resistors will get. They are many times designed so that they are inside by the blower, so it can cool them. Many times as a vehicle ages, the blower motor bearing start to wear and the motor actually takes more current to operate. The result could be a blown fuse or more often the resistors go bad. I suspect you are on the edge of needing to replace the blower motor.

Testimonial: "Heard THAT! I'm going to se if I can do an inductance test (or something) to see how much its drawing as opposed to a new one. Thanks, Charniw!"

The resistor is indeed very hot! and you are right it's cool by the blower, that's why most resistors are in the blower case.
the fuse was blown because it's not the right amp rating or the blower may be going bad.

Testimonial: "Definitely appreciate the help and clarification. I will re-check the owner's manual to verify the amperage on the fuse I installed. Thanks, Jas_ le"

Why would my blower, vent, defrost, ac and heater just quit blowing air?

There are several possible reasons why your blower, vent, defrost, AC, and heater might stop blowing air:

1. Blower Motor Failure: The blower motor is responsible for blowing the air through the vents. If the blower motor fails, you will not get any airflow from the vents.
2. Blower Motor Resistor Failure: The blower motor resistor controls the speed of the blower motor. If the resistor fails, the blower motor may stop working or only work at one speed.
3. Fuse or Relay Failure: A blown fuse or faulty relay in the blower motor circuit can prevent the blower motor from working.
4. Control Module Failure: The HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) control module is responsible for controlling the blower motor and other components. If the control module fails, it can prevent the blower motor from working.
5. Vacuum Leak: If your vehicle uses a vacuum system to control the vents, a vacuum leak can prevent the system from working properly.
6. Broken Blend Door: The blend door controls the direction of the airflow. If the blend door breaks or gets stuck, the air may not flow through the correct vents.
7. Wiring or Connector Issues: Faulty wiring or connectors in the blower motor circuit can prevent the blower motor from working.

'94 Silverado heat/ac fan not blowing. Hear clicking when selecting l,m, and high but not blowing

94 CHEVY Silverado ????,heat/ac fan not blowing. K1500?????? Hear clicking when selecting l'm, SET high but not blowing! WITH AIR OR NO A/C? FIRST IS FUSES, MAKE SURE THE BLOWER FUSE IS NOT BLOWN.
EASY NO? CHECK ALL FUSES FIRST. ON ALL ELECTRICS FAILING OF ANY KIND.
BAD FUSE, BAD WIRINIG , BAD CONNECTIONS. OR EVEN BAD RELAYS TO THE BLOWER OR BAD SWITCH BLOW.
THE OLD CARS , HAD A SPEED BLOW , RESISTOR BLOCK
THAT FAILS ON ALL SPEEDS BUT HIGH, SO ITS NOT THAT.
OWN A VOLT METER????
HERE IT IS, ANY OF THIS CAN FAIL THIS OLD
WE USES A VOLTMETER TO FIND THE POINT OF FAILURE.
A SHORTED BLOWER MOTOR CAN BLOW LEFT SIDE TOP
FUSABLE LINK.RIGHT FUSE BLOWN MAKES THE CONTROLLER DEAD.

What is an AC diode fuse? I have a 2006 AWD Pontiac Torrent the AC/Heat doesn't work, I've changed all fuses for the HAVAC and still no AC/Heat blowing out of vents. What could be the problem?

Could be a number of thing's ! Testing the electrical circuit is the way to find out what's wrong . Using a wiring diagram and a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter . Videos on youtube showing how to test it ! Without testing i would only be guessing . Does it work in high speed ? In high speed it by-passes the resistor . If it doesn't work in any speed more then likely the blower motor is the problem !
Air Speed
The HVAC control assembly applies ground to the blower motor control circuit that corresponds to the selected blower speed. The resistors and the blower motor are in a series circuit. The following list represents the number of resistors in series with the blower motor per particular speed request:
• Low speed--3 resistors
• Medium 1 speed--2 resistors
• Medium 2 speed--1 resistor
When the operator requests High speed, the HVAC control assembly applies ground directly to the blower motor through the high blower motor control circuit. The resistor card has a fusible link which, if blown, will require that the card be replaced.

My heater and ac only works when the blower is set on the highest setting.

it has something to do with the blower motor resistor is next to the blower motor behind the glove compartment it prevents the wires from getting to hot check the wires or connection for signs of over heating clean the connector or just wiggle it if if no reaction change the resistor is a common part to go out but not expensive at all good luck

2006 F250 the blower for the a/c and heat quit working. I checked fuses and found none blown could it be a relay or something else?

the most common problem with blower motors if not the fuse is the blower resistor that controls all the blower speeds.the resistor is located in the heater air box near the blower motor and there is usually about 4 wires in the plug.

2001durango slt no heat in front

I have a 2001 Black Durango that had the same problem. There is a resister to the right of the ac/heat blower (underneath the dash on passaenger side). This needs to be replaced. You might want to replace the motor as well. Both are real easy. I had replaced the resister first and everthing worked fine for about 6 months and then my ac/heat would only works on high. I replaced the motor and now it works just fine. The resister was about $15 at dealership and the motor is prob around $40-$50. I hopes this helps. Good Luck!
