I have a 1993 saturn station wagon with a 4 cylinder. I need to remove the starter for replacement what is the easiest way to do this?

Hello, Disconnect the negative battery cable with a wrench. (2)Lift the front of your Saturn with a floor jack. Position two jack stands under the front end and lower the vehicle onto them(3)Find the starter at the rear of the engine where it couples with the transmission. It is a cylindrical component about 7 inches in length and 4 inches in diameter. The starter solenoid, a smaller cylindrical component, mounts on top of the starter. Pull off the pin holding the shield to the starter solenoid with a pair of slip-joint pliers and remove the shield.(4)Spray the electrical and cable connections at the back of the starter solenoid with penetrating oil. This will help the retaining nuts release easier.(5)Unfasten the retaining nuts securing the battery cable and electrical connectors to the back of the starter solenoid using a wrench.Put on your safety goggles and crawl under your Saturn. Unfasten the lower starter mounting bolt with a ratchet, short ratchet extension and socket. Remove the upper starter mounting bolt with an obstruction wrench. If you cannot reach the upper bolt from underneath, try reaching the bolt through the opening on the intake manifold support bracket.6)Unfasten the bolt holding the rear starter bracket to the engine using a wrench, if your starter has this bracket (not all 1993 Saturns do)(7)Remove the starter from the engine compartment.
Thanks

Replacing starter on a 98 saturn sl2 4 door

the starter on your car is in the rear of the motor, this is an under car project and can me done in an afternoon. you sill need to have a basic set of sockets and wrenches (metric) and a hammer.

1. jack the car up as high as you can get it ( also make sure to chuck the wheels and set hte parking brake.)
2. disconnect the battery.
3. *under car" behind hte motor ther is the starter, it is connected to the motor through the transmission housing,
4. remove the starter wires (red wire, and a smaller wire) i think its blue but i cant remember exactly.
5. remove the starter bolts there are 2-3 bolts.
6. repeat process in revers order.
7. reconnect battery and try new starter to confirm fix.

**BE SURE TO DOUBLE CHECK THAT YOUR CONNECTIONS ARE TIGHT BUT NOT OVER TORQUED**

I have a 2000 focus se, 2.0; needs new starter, where is it located?

The haynes manual isnt really much help with actually locating the starter. I know because i got the haynes manual to try and find the starter on my girlfriends 2000 focus. It tells you how to change it but not where it is located. I just changed the starter so ill give you the rundown. Underneath your car right where the headers connect to the exhaust there will be a black metal plate with 4 bolts about 4 inches wide and 6 inches long. The starter is behind that barely visible. Once you remove that metal plate you can clearly see the bottom of the starter with the starter solenoid on top. There are 3 bolts on the starter but you will only see the head of one bolt from the bottom. DO NOT remove that bolt first. Go to the top of the engine and remove the air hose from the air filter box. You will see 2 bolts that connect into the right side of the starter brace. It is a very tight space but once you get the bolts off now you can go underneath the car and hold the starter while you remove the last bolt. On my 2000 focus the wires dont give you much room for it to drop. My starter only dropped about an inch so you wont have much room to work with the wires which are located on the top of the starter at the right side of the solenoid. The wires lead into a plastic harness with 2 nuts on the right side of the plastic wire harness. Good Luck.

Were is the starter located

On the Saturns the starter will be on the back side of the motor on the drivers side midway up the block bolted into the transmission housing. Before you remove your starter remove the ground cable on your battery before taking any wires off of the starter to prevent shorting anything .There should be 2 bolts that hold the starter in place and to bolts holding the wires on.Hope this helps you a little bit.

Where is the starter on my 1999 sl2 saturn?

On the back of the engine, underneath the intake manifold. It is bolted into the bell housing so its orientation is left to right with the exposed gear being inserted into the bell housing so as to interact with the teeth of the flywheel. Has a thick cable from the battery bolted to the top of it. Go and look on ebay for saturn starters. Once you know what it looks like, it will jump right out at you. It is a ***** to replace, in case you are considering that. Access to starter and mounting bolts are the problem. Like every starter I have ever seen it has just two bolts, and the electrical connections.
