Tail light replacement is not as hard as it seems.
Tools needed:flat head screwdriver and a deep 5/32 socket(a pair of pliers will work).
Step 1: open trunk and pull back truck liner at tail light. There is a small button clip on liner.Use screwdriver to pop up the center of button clip, pull clip out of hole.
Step 2:You will see a black wire attached to the body of car with 2 white clips.Use screwdriver to pop clips off of studs.
Step 3:Remove the nuts from the studs and pull tail light assembly straight back away from car.The outer side of the light just snaps in and out of place.
Step 4:Turn light socket counter clockwise 1/3 turn and pull out.
Step 5:Pull bad bulb straight out and replace.Reverse steps to reassemble.

Drop the tailgate - there are two torx style bolts holding the lens assembly in place. Remove both, then with some gentle force, pull the lens assembly straight back(there are two self seating plastic bolts that hold the assembly into the truck frame, towards the cab).
Once undone, there is a strip of three bulbs on one wired base, and that base is screwed to the lens assembly (4 phillips screws). Unscrew those, and the lens assembly is free from the base. You can then remove the bulbs, insert new ones, and reverse the process. Good luck.

Inside your trunk on either side of your tailgate are panels that allow you access to your taillights....I'll add more later.

The lens covers dont come off. You can access the bulb from inside the trunk. By opening the panels
Check with your local auto parts store or look in your owner's manual to find the proper model number of the replacement tail light globe.
Open your trunk or lift your hatchback. Find the cover just on the inside of your vehicle next to the burnt-out bulb.
Turn the two latches counterclockwise to open them so the cover may be removed. In most cases you can turn the latches with your fingers; in some cases you may need a coin or a slot screwdriver to turn them. Remove the cover.
Press the tabs that allow you to remove the tray that holds the tail light globes. There are four tabs on most VW models. Each tab must be depressed to release the tray. Pull the tray out a few inches, as far as the wiring allows.
Press down slightly on the burned-out globe and turn it counterclockwise with your thumb and fingers. It should release easily and then pull straight out. Push the replacement bulb in and turn it clockwise until it locks in place.
Snap the tail light tray back in place. The tray should simply push back into place and the four tabs should "snap" into their locked position. Replace the door cover and turn the door locks clockwise. Test your bulb to see that it is working.
Good Luck
