My 2007 Dodge Caliber wont start when I turn the key over. Doesn't happen all the time. I bought a new battery last year and a new key last winter as well since that is what the dealership said it needed. Still happens. What could be the problem.
The engine doesn't turn over period. I don't even hear clicking. The lights and radio turn on but there is just silence when I turn it over to start the car.The engine doesn't turn over period. do you have access to a test light or volmeter? if so you will need two people for the next test and it has to be acting up to verify the cause of the no start no crank.do you have access to a test light or volmeter? if so you will need two people for the next test and it has to be acting up to verify the cause of the no start no crank.

have alternator rechecked new doesnt mean free from defects---check wiring and connectors-have battery tested may not be taking charge [damaged ] and check fusible link if above are good
Sounds like the solenoid on the starter is not getting any power, check the small wire connection on the starter to see if there is power in the start position, if not you have an ignition switch problem or an open circuit between the ignition switch and starter solenoid... if you do have power in the crank position then you have a bad starter.
You are dealing with 2 possible problem. The ignition switch,or the alarm, If you have a alarm problem the vehicle will crank then in 2 seconds shut down, this is because the key is recognized, now if this is the problem roll down a window and disconnect the negative battery terminal, put the key in the ignition but in the off position. After 5 minutes reconnect the battery and turn the ignition on but dont crank the engine leave for 1 minute. Then see if that resolved the issue. Now if its an ignition switch problem crank the engine and slowly let it go.try to keep the key in the position where it stays running. By the way there is a campaign of a recall dealing with a TIPM software update Re-configure ,anti-theft system. Customer satisfaction notice G42. You will have to see the dealer for this campaign.
the stering wheel has a loke that can interfer with the barrell. so make shore that the steering wheel is not jamed in lock posistion by terning it to a senter position
They make heaters for the battery, heater, oil pan, and block. and you might try a thinner oil depending on the temperatures. The heaters themselves run around $100 ( for all) and will last for years. Even a battery blanket will help pretty good. Again depends on your regular temperatures.
