Okay the dealer may be right, the wiring sometimes breaks from opening and closing trunk, the trunk release operates on the same power as door locks, if door locks work its not a fuse, check the wiring harness in the trunk near hinge, this system is a complex one,so if you dont see a broken wire in the harness,(you will have to untape the wiring to see every wire) have a tech check the system.

I have a e320cdi 2005, can not open boot with key or the internal button. The only way can get it open is the little key(manually). Checked all fuses are ok. When it rains sometimes I get a message on the dashboard rear parking lights not working. Taken it Mercedes done all diagnostics and can not find a problem. Has anyone experienced similar problem?? Help!!

There is no fuse for the third brake light that I know of, it is wired into the main brake light wiring on most cars anyway. Probably the bulb is blown.

Third eye brake light won't work and the buld is new. I've tried location the fuse and can't find on specifically for that, would it be tied to something else?

all of the brake lights are on the same fuse. If the other brake lights are working than the fuse is good.

If I remember correctly this third brake light is located in the trunk lid. I would suspect that there is a broken power or ground wire going to the socket for the bulb. The usually area for this to happen is where the wiring harness flexes when the trunk is opened and closed. I think the connector for the harness is in the same area and I'm pretty sure it is on the drivers side. Take a peak at the wiring in that area. you may have to remove some tape to get a good look. If there are wires broken than a simple repair should get it working again.

2006 CLS 500 - Trunk won't open, 3rd light out, plate lights out.

CLS550 2010. Same complaint trunk won't open, third brake light and license plate lights not working. Two ground wires (Brown) were broken inside the bundle of wires right were the zip tie holds them to the trunk lid arm. When I first looked I missed them. Remove all the corrugated wire protection and look the wires over very closely. One of them was broken inside but the wire just looked kinked on the outside. The other was broken in too. 7/9/17

MY BRAKE LIGHTS DONT WORK, THIRD BRAKE LIGHT WORKS, FUSE IS GOOD BULBS ARE GOOD AND NEW BRSKE SWITCH, TAIL LIGHTS WORK???

you have a broken wire some were if you cant find it you can run a seperate power wire from the third brake light to the brake lights but i would check for power at the brake lights first to make sure its not a ground problem

1998 S10 rear break lights and blinkers do not work.

If the fuses or brake light switch were bad your third brake light would not work same with the multi purpose switch. you either have a wiring problem like some broken wires or the actual light sockets are bad. it is common with gm trucks that the circuit board for the tail lights melts and does not make contact.

2001 Z3 blows fuse 46

Hurrah, I've managed to stop my fuse 46 blowing. The problem was the wire that run into the boot lid.  There is a thick bunch gathered together and a single wire that runs along side, im guessing this feeds the boot lid / spoiler brake light. anyhow that wire was broken and Im guessing would touch after the boot had been opened and closed.  Which is how i figured out the intermittent (could last a day or an hour) problem.
Hope this helps
