My 66 mustang pops when I turn it right. I think there are suspension/bushing problems. Looks like the original idle arm and other parts. This is not a pony model - just the standard 289. When the car is up int he air, there is a lot of play in the wheels. Suggestions?
The first suggestion is to replace the tie rods. In most cases where there is alot of play and a popping sound when the wheel is turned is because the inner parts of the tie rods are worn through and should be replaced as soon as possible. You could lose control easily if the tie rod pops out completely.
There are inner and outer tie rod ends which keep the wheel in a straight line while attached to the axle. Tie rod ends can be found on the inside of the wheel and are attatched to a longer metal bar which allows tight steering by controling the path of the wheels. The tie rod ends themselves look of a ratchet, with the handle end being threaded.
