lights behind the instrument cluster may be burnt out, you have to pull the dash assembly apart and pull the cluster out to get behind it and check the little bulbs that are in the back of the cluster panel
drop steering colume down, remove dash screws,in the back u will find light holders, turn it slowly, pull out, replace bulb, only with right size wattage,or u could milt plastic parts
Yes, this is a bulb specific to the odometer area .
Find some directions online for a gauge overlay to remove the cluster from the dash, and the bulb is in a quarter twist holder right behind the odometer.
There are some threads at F150online.com, in the technical articles / How to forum for the cluster overlay that might help with removing the cluster.
Remove the brakelight bulb holder, If you pop out the entire assembly it will save your knucles some skin. Then you want to take some fine sandpaper and clean the contacts "on the housing" well, and coat the with a thin film of dielctric grease or vaseline. I'm sure this will resolve your problem. I've had to do this to numerous Volvo vehicles over the years. Also once you're finished, the dash indicator may "not" go out unless you purchase the bulbs from Hella because of their candlepower exclusivity.
I own a 2000 impala ls and encountered the same problem. My solution to my problem was buy a new light switch and it worked. The circuits on the old one seemed to be burned so thats why they would come on sometimes. To install the new switch you need to remove the faceplate on the dash board and behind it you will find two screws holding it in place remove the screws and unplug the switch and replace.
if the other dash lights work... it's a burnt out bulb.... well at least two or more.... sometimes they can be replaced from under the dash... other times you have to take the unit out.
