1st number is tread width (mm)265
r =speed rating
2nd is wheel size, in inches 16
the rule of thumb re tread width, is the tread should not exceed the inner wheel width,measured inside the wheel/tyre sealing area by more then 20mm.
otherwise car will tend to sway when steered for moose test.so check your wheels first...
r rating only good upto 100 mph intermitently...

265 65R17 interchangeable for 245 65R17?

The tire will be somewhat shorter. When your speedometer is reading 58 MPH, you are really going 60MPH Aprox 3.3% off . The gas mileage will be lower, beacuse the engine will be spinning faster at the same speed, therefore, less mileage,

Want to buy new tyres, for gmc denali 2003, which onez??

There is a sticker inside your drivers door that lists the stock tire size. This is always the best bet. On line is a web sight from tirerack.com that has explanations of tire sizes, tread ratings and on....

Change tire sizes from 265/40 to 265/35 and 225/40 to 225/35

When resizing tires, the best method is +1,-1 or -1, +1. That is, if you add to the width one size (i.e. 235 -> 245), then you need to go down one aspect ratio (i.e. 40 -> 35). So if you run 225/40ZR18 tires and want to keep your speedo accurate, 235/35ZR18 works for a "plus one" and 215/45ZR18 will work for a "minus one" change. This way, your impact on speedometer accuracy is minimal.

Hope this helps,
matt

Changing the tire size on a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Go with the 265/75/16, they are the same as the Off Road Pathfinder. If you shop around, you can find them for alot less than the original size price. Be sure to find a good all season tire with a good treadwear rating.

1996 jeep grand cherokee ltd problem with transfer case because of different size tires

You should have the same size tires in the front and back. By having 2 different sizes, you are changing the gear ratios between the front diff. and rear diff. You could wipe out the t-case especially if it is full time 4wd.
