    SOURCE: 2006 Chevy HHR

start with the shifter. a common problem is the shifter is not making connection with the switch to tell the car its in park. jar ( hit) the shifter some and see if this doesnt let the key release. if this doesnt work then on plastic covering under the ignition switch is a small opening with a plastic cover. Remove the cover, feel with your finger until you find the release button for the key. The key will then come out.

    SOURCE: Key stuck in ignition

This is a VERY common problem and there is a campaign though I am not sure it ever made it to full recall. The ultimate answer is to have the ignition switch replaced. In the meantime, you'll need to be able to get that key out. On the bottom side of the steering column there is a one inch square rubber plug that you pry out. You can then use your pointer finger to push the switch in. This will release the lock and let you turn your key to the off position and remove. You may want to leave this plug out as you'll be doing this a lot until it is repaired.

What could be wrong with my 2006 Chevrolet HHR?

Sounds like a programming or electonic problem If it was to replace an ignition switch, the dealership may have flashed the computer with the wrong information to operate you vehicle or match up with the replaced part.. You will most definitely have to take it back.

2006 Chevy HHR not starting no click or any noise when turning the switch all lights come on as if nothing was wrong!

yes and also your powersteering has no pump or fluid its electric assist under the dash so that is a electric connection problem.. Check your ground on your engine and battery for good connections. look for any straps from engine to frame also.. If the ignition switch is bad it too can be cutting power to the powersteering unit just a thought

2006 HHR LT remote start and power steering not working

I recently saw on the news that some models were being recalled for a faulty ignition switch. (Where the key goes.) It happens for no apparent reason and kills the engine and locks the steering wheel. They said only 1 accident has occurred but imagine it happening at 60 miles per hour. You should call and see if your model is one of the bad ones.

I have a chevy 1996 hhr and my key got stuck in the ignition but i got it out. However, when i put my key into the ignition the car still will not start? Could this be a dead battery issue or ignition...

To eliminate the battery have a load test done to check the cell conditions. I suspect that it may be an immobiliser problem from the key issue.
