How do you reset the stereo to a 97 passat glx vr6?

Are you talking about the temperature sensor? One should be located on the rad, one on the engine

Oil filter? Is it on tight?

You have a heater core leak inside the dash behind the firewall.

the clutch may burn out on those gear, check the fluid if it smell burn

seems a lot of money to check a feed wire ,dont you have a family member whos handy

Passats can be reset if the radio is pulled out and the fuse on the back is removed. Wait for 2 mins, reinsert the fuse and turn the radio on. If this doesn't work, please take it to the dealer for the unlocking of the code, for which he may charge you some fee.

take everything out, except the steering wheel and brake pedal, its th only way, seems complicated, but just tackle it, it goes quick. label things that you take apart and pay attention to how to route the wires again. the clips that hold together the vent system are a pain, I ended up not putting a few back on, big deal.
