you need to see what trouble code was set when the check engine light came on

if you ran out of oil and you now can hear knocking sound comming from the engine then it time to get it checked by a mechanic

Check engine light on ? Have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's .

Is the check engine light on while you're cranking the engine?

test and replace batterie and connections

distributor module.... any recent tune-ups? e.g= cap,rotor,wires,plugs? parts are reasonably priced and labor should be around 1 hour... start there...

Its probably your computer. Had the same thing happen to me about ten years back. About 500 dollars. better off finding one on ebay or at a junk yard.

Yes sounds like the sensor playing up ,but it could be anything ,but eliminate it by changing it

sound like the electronic module that controlls tranny is heating up or just going bad...have it tested by a good mechanic

Try cleaning the fuel pump filter. Under the seat behind the driver lift the carpet and you will find a round cover with six screws remove the cover. The fuel pump is directly below unscrew the retaining round plate and remove the pump. At the base of the pump is a small filter if it is covered in black muck that's your problem. clean and replace. job takes about 10 mins good luck. please let me know how you got on!
