Pulling the hood latch handle does not release the hood on a 98 Volvo v70, it is not out of adjustment because the cable broke from the latch and pulling the cable itself with vice grips does nothing, there is no movement of the cable at all. I took out the grill and can see no part of the hood latch or cable from there. Pulling the cable while another works the hood up and down trying to get it to release has already been tried. I worked at a number of dealerships, including Volvo and Jag as a mechanic untill the 90's and this is the first car I have not been able to get the hood up on when the cable broke.

Outer sheath of release cable has perished. You need to disconnect the cable from the inside , hold the end of cable with pliers and push forward the outer sheath with v shaped tool eg clawhammer and there will be movement of the cable on the latch side releasing it. Hope this helps

2010 Chevrolet 2500 Extended Van can't get hood open. Inside latch flips open, but still can't raise hood.

Have someone press down on the hood with their palms while you try and release it, if it does open lube the hood latch with white lithium grease AKA "Lubriplate".

Where is hood latch for volvo 98 v70

Inside the Driver's compartment in the foot well just forward of the Driver's Door on the side. It is right about where your left Calf would be while driving. It is a handle that you pull back towards the back of the car.

How do you open the hood on 85 cad Seville cable broke

Sometimes not easy... Is cable broke at inside handle or at latch under hood? If you can get hold of broken cable inside with some pliers, just pull cable. That usually works. But not sure where your break is. Getting to latch to release is what can be difficult. Also having an extra hand (someone out side tapping on hood or pulling up slightly) while tring to pull cable with pliers

Pulling the hood latch handle does not release the hood on a 98 Volvo v70, it is not out of adjustment because the cable broke from the latch and pulling the cable itself with vice grips does nothing,...

The only suggestion that I can think of is to have someone push up and down on the hood while you pull the cable. This might lower the tension on whatever is binding. If there is a way to spray some lubricant with a plastic tube into the latch area, I would give it a try. Sorry this isn't more helpful. Just be glad it's not a Jag. Takes 5 hours of labor to open the hood on some models after the hood release handle breaks. Good luck!

98 explorer hood latch does not work

Hello.
  • Unattach the release handle from the dash and disconnect the cbale and get someone to use the palms of there hands to tap on the hood while pulling the cable with pliers.
  • If this fails then you will have to go through the grill and do the same at the latch
  • If this fails then you will need to remove the bolts holding the latch to the radiator support to get the hood open.

When I want to open the hood of my 98 volvo V70 only one side of it opens. To release the other side (driver side) I have to have another person to pull the release from inside and hold it in order for me...

Not for sure on yours, but take a look were the hood comes down on the corners and see if you have a couple of rubber stops that the hood rests on. If so you can try and adjust the one on the side that is giving you trouble so the hood won't have so much tenssion on it. From your description, it sounds as if you have two hood latches? I can't imagine that- but thats the only way for one side to stick and not the other. If so you may also need to adjust the slack out of the cable to that one side also.

Broken hood release on 98 chev 1500. How can I get it open?

if it is broken at the handle you should be able to grasp the cable with pliers to pull it otherwise you will have to go out front of truck and the best way i found requires long arms, but you would have to use a flashlight and slide under front bumper and look upward to find cable/latch assembly. You may be able to do it through the grill but if cant see it through the grill under neath.if you in front of truck pull latch to right and it will release.
