Do you have properly functioning heat riser tube?
The metal tube that connects to the exhaust manifold that provides heat for a cold engine until it warms up? You should also check the valve for fresh air / heat riser air. As the engine warms up the air supply switches from heat riser air to fresh air from the air filter assembly. I have most often seen this controlled by a valve with a vacuum hose.
