The ABS warning light stay's on all the time, only time it is off is when the vehicle is shut off. 2002 Chevy silverado 4x4

First you need to have EBCM - electronic brake control module check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's . If the light is on there is a code stored . I think most part stores can do this and for free . After you find out what code is stored , looking up that code in service repair information for diagnostic trouble shooting chart would be next step . There are a few codes too.

Find the code do the diagnostic's , fix the problem , wiring issue's , a sensor , bad module ,what ever it is . The light will go out then . Here is a sample of code discription .

Hi Gary, I think you may be referring to a 'fail safe' system. When turning on the ignition you will notice that the warning indicator lights on the dash come on indicating ABS, Traction Control, Air bags and so on. The fail safe system operates the warning lights, assuring the driver of the fact that at the time of start up all systems were operational. The lights will go out after a few seconds. If the 4 X 4 warning stays illuminated when the vehicle is in 2 X 4, have a diagnostic scan carried out. Regards John

You need to have the dealer scan the control module to see what codes show in memory

jack up pull wheel, pull brake caliper and bracket, take nut off axle in center of bearing on back side where axle goes in should be 4 bolts make sure to dis connect abs sensor cause its comin with the bearing that should be bout it some times they come out hard but the will come out

Scan it,pull the codes when the lights come on and repair the ABS System. Most likely a Wheel Speed Sensor. Test all parts first,to determine if their bad. If you have no knowledge of these systems,take it to a shop.

Sounds like the PRNDL switch on the side of the transmission. Be sure and clear the code before trying to start after replacing it.

The warning lights are indicating a malfunction has been detected in either the sensing or actuation portion of the ABS system. Your base brakes will function normally but in the event of an ABS controlled stop on an "icy" or "slippery" stretch of road were the ABS system would take over to prevent a skid, that automatic system will not function.
Have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes to find out which portion of the system has malfunctioned.

U need someone with an OBDII ABS computer too reset the light. Usually a dealer shop will do it fairly cheap...

Once the ABS light is on there is a problem with the ABS system. You can't really guess with this stuff. Also it becomes a safety issue when abs light is on the ABS system is in-operable. Here is my advice take your vehicle to any AUTO-ZONE store and they will check for FREE and let you know why this light is on it could be anything form abs sensors(wheel sensors) or something like that, they are four of them one in each wheel so make sure to get exact info as to what is the exact code and meaning.
