You have to block up the rear end then pull the cover off the rear end then pull tires and drums off then
go to the punkin and pull the center pin out its a 5/16 or 8mm bolt out slid the pin out then push axles in take the C-clips out then pull axles out
you will need a axle slide hammer to get the bearing out and
then tap the new one in just far enough to get the cyl. in
then put all back to gether

On my 2004 mercury mountaineer if anyone knows what size socket fits the rear axle nut let me know I have been told a 36 mm but it seems like it's a little too big for the nut

36mm is the consensus of opinion, but in reality, it is the socket that 'FITS'! Most socket sets come in metric and imperial, you use that one that is the best fit.

2007 ford sport trac rear wheel bearing replacement

Jeff is describing how to replace the front wheel bearings. In the front, the bearing is part of a "hub cartridge". Randy is describing how to change the rear bearings on a truck with a "dead" rear axle. The sort of differential which is one massive cast iron assembly from rim to rim. However, your truck has an IRS [Independent Rear Suspension] design. You need to remove the wheels, brakes & the complete rear knuckle assembly. To remove the bearing from the knuckle requires a hydraulic press and a "knife edge" bearing removal tool. I doubt that you have these tools available. If not, find an auto parts store or auto machine shop with these tools. They can press the old bearing out and install the new one for you. Then you can reassemble the knuckle assembly from that point on. The video linked below should help you.

With the knuckle off, you can easily replace the ball joints at the same time. Odds are you will ruin the original ball joints getting the knuckle assembly off, anyway.

How to remove rear wheel bearings on my 1999 Ford Expedition and how do i know what pulley to rent/buy?

The 1999 Ford Expedition is built on an F150 platform. The Expedition uses a 9.75-inch rear axle. The axles are retained with C-clips at the end of the axle shaft, inside the differential carrier. The axle bearings are of the roller type. A failed axle bearing can manifest itself as a noise at the rear wheel or gear oil leaking past the oil seal. When replacing axle bearings, the oil seals must also be replaced.
Torque the caliper mounting bolts to 30 foot-pounds. Torque the bolt to 20 foot-pounds with a torque wrench and socket. How to change the rear axel bearrings on ford f 1=150

have to pull the diff cover, remove the small bolt that holds the pin, remove the pin . With wheels off ,push the axle in remove c-clip ,slide axle out. You will need a slide hammer to remove the bearing.(or pull both sides and drive out with a long piece of rebar from the other end)
Be sure to check the axle surface where the bearing rides,if is damaged the parts stores sell a repair bearing that makes the rollers ride in a different spot on the axle.(called "axle savers")

Feels like chatter in rear end when accelerating 2004 f150 4x4

Check the "U-Joints" on the drive shaft and or rear wheel/axle bearings.
You MAY need a little help as the wheel(s) needs to be of the ground to check axle bearing. Grasp top and bottom of the tire and wobble it in and out.

Rear axle bearings

There are 4 bolts for each rear axle. They are located behind the rear brake drums. Remove e-brake cable from rear drum and take off brake line.(carefully). I recomend draining and changing your rear differential fluid too, because if the fluid by run out of axle housing. also you should replace the seals for the axles of if you are changing the bearings. When you are done don't forget to bleed your brakes, and hooking up e-brake cable. I hope this answers your question.
