Perform service indicator warning is a heads up that another oil change is needed. Your vehicles computer calculates a duty cycle for service intervals; Driving distance, stop and go etc... Change the engine oil, and reset the alert, and you'll be fine.

Hi my name is Mike I have a 2002 x5 and in the dash board there was 4 little green lights on on bottom right now I got one red one and one yellow one what does it mean thx lots

Hi Mike. The lights are the service maintenance lights. When an oil service or inspection service is performed the lights should be reset to all green. Over time the lights will go from all green lights and disappear until a yellow light comes on. The yellow means the next service is due. The red means over due.

At 40,000 miles there is a "Required Service"

Hi.

The light means that the maintenance interval is over and that service is required. The procedure to turns off the light is reported on the owners manual but you are strongly advised to do service at intervals prescribed by manufacturer. Service will consist in oil change, fluids change, filters and general inspection.

Here the general procedure to reset service light.

1. Turn the ignition key to the 'OFF' position with the trip meter A reading shown.

2. Turn the ignition key to the 'ON' position while holding down the trip meter 'RESET' button.

Hold down the knob for at least 5 seconds. The odometer indicates '000000' and the light goes off.

Perform service as soon as possible.

Regards.

What does it mean when my service maintenance light comes on a 2002 acura rl that has 117,000 miles on it.

This service light comes on every 5000 miles and remind you of an oil change , after oil change has been done , the light suppose to be reset.
The scheduled services performed according to Maintanence Schedule , up on exeeded mileage.(usualy comes as separate booklet or as a part of owner manual book).

What does perform service message mean?

This is a oil change reminder. Nothing fancy about, when you get your oil change go into the menu and click reset counter and it will go off. If there was something wrong with your car the check engine light would come on.

The performance service light came on our 2004 Chrysler Pacifica..we got an oil change like 3 wks ago...not sure what this means..

Most likely it means that the mechanic didn't bother to reset the service interval after changing the oil.

You can do this yourself by hitting the Step button until you see 0 miles until Service displayed, then hold the reset button until it changes to 3000 miles.

Yellow oil light comes on at start up

The above "Guru has no idea what he is talking about. The yellow oil light means you need a new oil level sensor, if your oil is indeed full. Its located in the oil pan and costs around $100. Oh, and oil changed are around 15,000 miles, not 6000 miles. When the BMW is due for an oil change or inspection, the display says so. The yellow light is low oil. Please avoid giving advice when you don't know what you're talking about.

Oil fill light

i am pretty sure the oil light comes on when the key is turned to the ON position, then goes out after it starts (providing oil quantity is not low). if it stays on after it starts, then may be an issue with sending unit.

mention it to the dealer when you take it in and they should be able to further diagnose.

BTW, what service is it going in for is oil service was performed 5000 miles ago?

Battery or radiator light on a 1999 BMW 318i SE

The below is taken from another site written a year ago:
What you are looking at is the Service Indicator. The green, yellow and red lights let you know when service needs to be performed. The green lights mean everything is still good. The yellow lights mean "anytime you're ready." The red lights mean do the service ASAP. There are also two other lighted areas. One says "inspection," the other says "oil change" (or oil service.) An oil change is an oil change. However, there are two inspections: Inspection 1 is normally at every other 15,000 miles; Inspections 2 is at every 30,000 miles. Your local BMW dealer should have a pamphlet listing all duties performed for each of the services. Inspection 2 can run you around $400-$800 depending on the service station/dealership's labor rates. Inspections 1 should be around 1/2 of that. You should have your oil changed about every 5000 miles. Dealership oil changes can range from $35-$65. A BMW that is well taken care of will last a long time.

FYI, don't be surprised if the SI (service indicator) board decides to **** out one day. I'm surprised to see yours is still working (they usually die within 10 years unless someone went thru the expense to have it replaced.) If/when it does go, just gauge your services by the mileage intervals I've listed above. I'd also recommend when you stop into (or just call) the dealership, go to the parts department and order an owner's manual for your BMW. Should be less than $20 and get to you in about a week unless they have one in stock.
When the service tech has performed the necessary service(s), he will reset your SI board so that only green lights are showing.
