2001 grand prix..fuel door hinge is broken.how do you get at the hinge on the fuel door.?

that seems to be the going trend with alot of Grand Prix"s - its the hinge inside the fuel door that has rotted off

The driver door hinges may be loose and need to be adjusted.The latch itself could be bent or damaged as well.

Pink wire is ignition in to switch / module. Check the door hinge area and the rubber boot where all the wiring runs. Most likly a broken wire or two in that flex joint. Not uncommon.
If none of the above works, most likly the switch may be bad.

YOU NEED TO HAVE THE DOOR HINGE BUSHINGS REPLACED, THEY ARE ON PIVOT POINTS OF DOOR HINGES AND ARE WORN OUT.

COS THEY ARE TOO BLOODY HEAVY...use a lump of 3x3 to lift the rear of the door to "adjust" the door back to its normal level)

lock smith or someone authorized to use a slimjim[can do more damage if dont know how to use ]--or-- key fob wont work if vehicle battery dead if u can reach up under car at front and release hood latch then jump battery and then use key fob to unlock door

Try inside of a trunk by the hinge.

open the fuel door remove screws for filler remover plastic filler you now have access to fuel door & hinge assemble

go look at the passengers side. take note of the door seam and fender seam width. its about the width of a piece of cardboad. additionally look at the door hinges on the passenger side. it may or may not have washer shims. if they do/dont then just match up with passenger side. it takes 2 people to hang the door. screw in door hinges "finger tight" just to take off the weight of someone holding the door. play with the hinges until you can open/close door without binding or crimping fender at the seam. do not over tighten hinge bolts until the door opens/closes unobstructed. bottomline 2 people needed. slow and tedious job. you may have to add or take shims(washers) out for good fit. note that you may have to add shims to the inner door hinges or to the fender hinges where they meet. hope this is clear instructions.
