1998 Audi A3, 1 working remote key, valet key wont start

I have a 1998 Audi A3 with 1 working remote key however, the valet key will not start the car. After I tried to reprogram the valet key, the yellow car/key warning symbol BLINKS on the dash BUT it will start 1-10 times, no problem. But as soon as I lock and unlock the doors, it wont start again. It just dies!

Sounds like carbon build-up in the cylinders. Take it and have it put on a machine called a "Motor-Vac"

Enter car from left rear behind the driver and see if you can manually unlock it from the inside. Then use remote to test it.

'94 Avalon. Why won't it turn over?

There isn't a valet switch but you should have a second valet key. That is designed to allow the car to be started and run but will not unlock the trunk or glove box. See if you have a key that is similar but not the same as the other main key and see if you can start it with that. If you have an remote alarm system, that could be interfering with starting. See if you can override the alarm.

Used my Valet key last night and now my Audi A4 wont start, is this related to using the valet key?

more than likely as the fob key has a chip that syncs with the security system etc , have you got the owners handbook as this should give you the procedure that needs to be carried out to reset the fob key, can't take the credit for this fix as found it at an audi forum give it a try .
I learned a new trick tonightbiggrin.gif. I recently changed the battery in my key and it would no longer open the door locks. I just sat down and read the manual and found that if you replace the battery you need to re-synch the key.

Here is how it's done.

replace the battery. ( pry open the little tab at the seam in the key, then split the bottom in two with your finger)

Press the lock or unlock button once.
with-in one minute put the key into the drivers door and lock and unlock it manualy.

TADA it works again biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

I have seen a few threads and questions that said there fob stopped working. so I thought I would throw this out there. I hope that some of you with this problem that don't have manuals because the previous owner kept it for a souvenir will find this Helpful.

I have a 1996 audi a4 and have bought an OEM remote from my dealership. I did the two key thing and holding remote buttons but it did not work. They checked my vin and said it was the right part, but it...

You'll need two keys.
1) Open the driver door, turn the ignition switch to on, but do not start the car.
2) Close and lock the driver door with the other key (this should be the proper key and not just the valet key - if you use the valet key the programming won't work).
3) Hold down both buttons on the fob for about 5 seconds. The lights should flash and the alarm horn should honk.
4) Open the door, remove the key from the ignition. Close and lock the door with the key.

hope this helped if not then I would go to the back to the dealer and have them do it for you.

I locked my keys in the trunk of my 1998 audi cabriolet. is there a way to open the trunk from the inside of the car without the keys?

I would call the dealership and explain your situation and they might be able to make you a valet key based on the vin# with proof of ownership.

Locking mechanism is broken on driver's door.

If the valet key is not programmed to the Immobilzer system, it should start the car, but it will shut off. This is only if the car has an Immobilizer system. If your locksmith unlocked the car without the door key, then use the key to unlock and disarm the alarm in the door. If you triggered the alarm, the starter will be disabled till a unlock signal from a remote or the door is actually unlocked with a key. If that cannot be done, your only solution right now is to tow it to the dealership and have them make a master key and check the door locks for proper lock/unlock commands so the alarm will arm and disarm correctly.
