My 2004 Pacifica is making a noise underneath the drive side. Someone told me it is the bearings in the transmission. It sounds like a winding vibration noise, you can hear it and feel it. Please give me a phone number to Chrysler Corp.

Check the wheel bearing. If over or under torqued, it may give problems. Check the drive shaft is not bent from hitting a large stone whilst moving.

with the alternator use a long handled screw driver and place the end on the case of the alternator and cup the handle over an ear
grumbling sounds are bearings
for harmonic balancer check the rubber in the balancer and if it is shiny replace the balancer.

Could be the start of a transmission problem.
GM had a ton of recalls from 2004-2010 on their transmissions.

Ask your mechanic friend if you have a "fan clutch" and the test is simple. When you shut off the engine, does the fan continue to spin for a short time?

I have run into a few that had faulty fan clutches. If you hear it when shifting gears, that leans toward the transmission, but related, and also a recall from GM is the driveshaft.

You can call the service department at any GM dealer, ask for a service drive person, then have your VIN number handy as you ask them to do a search for recalls for your vehicle.

i have personally never heard of a grinding catalytic. also, these vehicles are not known for cat failures (not to say it can't happen). my first suspicion would be a faulty wheel bearings or lumpy tire. next time you are driving, try swerving the car side to side and listen for if the tone of the noise slightly changes. if so, you can bet you have a bad bearing. i would get a second opinion on the noise, the best way to check and isolate a bearing noise is to put the car on a hoist and accelerate to the speed of the noise, with someone underneath using a stethescope probe to isolate the source of the noise. if the noise goes away on the hoist, you can bet its a tire noise. good luck!

sounds like a wheel bearing they start to scrape and bind making loud noise while driving only. no noise while in park

It sounds like the driver wheel bearing.When you are driving you can sway the vehicle from left to right if the noise changes this is most likley your problem.

Hub bearings are binding. you need to have the car put up into the air. Have someone put it into drive get it to 55 mph to pinpoint which bearing is noisy. A binding wheel bearing can cause unwanted stress to the driveline. hope this helps.

Depending on how long you drove it low and how low it is (was), You can severely damage trans. Oil keeps it cool and lubricated. Parts in there are very sensitive to both. If you think it's got a noisy bearing, try to isolate which side. drive with windows open, have someone help you by listening on passenger side as well. If it's that noisy should not be too hard to find.

If it sounds more like it's coming from rear of engine, that could be a possibility, and should be followed up,but if it's coming from front of vehicle area, I'd concentrate on your accessory drive belt . If it hasn't been changed in quite a while especially. That belt is routed around about 8 different pulleys,in,out,over,under, and it would lead me to believe it would be a good candidate for wear & noise that would increase as it wears more. I wouldn't try belt dressing as I'm not a lover of that stuff, only for emergencies. It may be as simple as spraying water on it to see if the noise changes or disappears, just keep your eyes back if engines running. They make what they call an audioscope, basically a set of headphones wired to an amplified probe, so it's easier to isolate the noise, perhaps a local garage has one, and can pinpoint it for you. Years back mechanics would use a long screwdriver or pipe up to their ear and poke around, but that's very dangerous, so I wouldn't recommend that. Your engine does have a timing belt too, and engines in the past have been known to produce that sound you describe from wear on it too. I'd go after that one as a last resort unless manual recommends it at certain interval.
