Belt/Pulley Squeaks? (2006 Ford Taurus)

Originally we thought it was the belt so we changed that. The squeak(s) ceased for the next 3 months. Now they're back. Not as loud as previously but still quite noticeable. The dealership used some aerosol spray(wd-40) and it killed the squeak temporarily. Otherwise they weren't willing to help until payment was involved.

What would cause a serpentine belt to squeak after the tensioner pully has been replaced

Pulley alignment is the next place to look, DO NOT USE BELT lube, makes it worse. This presumes that each and every pulley turns easily.....

I have a 2006 ford taurus and its making a squeaking noise wha could that be/

That all depends on when and where it squeaks. If it starts squeaking as soon as you start it there is a good chance that you have either a bad belt or a bad pulley. If it squeaks only when the vehicle is moving then there is a good chance you have a wheel bearing going out. I hope this helps you out, and if you have any more questions please feel free to ask.

What makes a belt squeak?

Belts squeak for the same reason tires do when they spin. They are slipping. Something isn't turning as fast as the belt wants it to. On ford it's usually ether the idler sprocket or the tensioner. If you remove the belt and try spinning all of the pulleys by hand.( note the crank wont spin freely) you will usually be able to tell witch ones slipping.

Take a bar of soap at touch it on the side of belt when it is running. Becareful!!! or spray some WD40 on it. Should stop it. If not it must be something wrong with whatever it is running. If that is a serpentine belt spray it. Soap is good on v-belts.
