The anti theft light came on and shut down the entire car
A friend has a 97 cadillac deville, and just today, as she was leaving her driveway, the theft light started to go off and disabled the entire car. Any suggestions?

The key resistor that you installed only bypasses the key and ignition aspects of the security system. The theft deterrent module is still active and is most likely your prpoblem. This link explains.
That leaves nothing else but the anti theft system. The security system can actually turn your starter off. Since you've put a new ignition on there, (assuming from auto zone or something like that) 14 times out of 15 its the wrong one to match your car. Probably wasnt the problem anyway. Was probably your TDM (theft deterrent module). Your best bet is to bypass the entire system and that car will fire right up. if the theft light is was flashing on you, put the key in the ignition and turn all the way until the instrument cluster lights up, just don't start the car. leave it like that for aprox. 10 min. or until light goes out. when that happens, turn of(don't take out keys) and try to start car. hope it works.
More information is needed but, reading between the lines, this is usually an issue with antitheft device functionality and can only be accessed by the dealer.
When the car has the crank/no start, at that point see which is missing. Test for fuel and spark. I think it has to do with fuel, a tired fuel pump or relay. But remember to check the oil sending unit. If it fails it will shut down the fuel system.
I've got a 97 deville d'elegance that has issues similar to these. Last year the red anti-theft light came on and the car wouldn't start-took it to the dealership and they replaced the PCM? (the main brain for the system) for $900...the guy told us the wiring was so corroded he didn't want to mess with it much. Today the message started flashing on the dash that says "anti-theft problem/ car may not restart" but it still turned over in the driveway a couple times so I am hoping I can reset it. The wiring system is jacked and will probably need to replace the wiring harness completely. Doubt its worth it. Not a secure feeling with 2 babies in the back seat in the middle of winter....
