I have a leaking fuel pressure regulator. How do I replace?
Release fuel pressure by removing fuel pump relay and turning engine over to release pressure. Place a rag to catch any fuel under regulator Fuel pressure regulator has a locking clip pry clip off remove vacuum line pull regulator out with twisting motion, replace fuel pressure regulator install clip connect vacuum line install relay. Check for leaks, your done.

the fuel pressure regulator is on the end of the fuel rail it is held on by a torx screw relieve the fuel pressure using the schrader valve on the fuel rail remove regulator holding screw and replace new regulator be carful not to damage o-rings on new regulator

Be sure to relieve fuel pressure first or it will spray all over.
After removed, make sure to remove the very small O ring from inside the fuel rail. Many times this is overlooked and will cause problem during installation. Lube the new regulator's O rings lightly with silicone grease. Tech JK

My friend, I suggest you go by your local Auto Parts Store and purchase a Haynes Repair Manual on this vehicle. There are many sensors and electronic controls involved with this engine as I'm sure you already know. Any one of these can memic something that "it is not".
If your problem is the Pressure Regulator, it is located inside the "Tunnel Ram" intake manifold along with the multiport fuel injection system.
Now,,, before I went through the trouble and expense of going into the Intake Manifold, I would run the EMC in Diagnostic Mode and see if there are any codes present.

As far as I know without checking it personally it sounds like it could be one of three things (in order from easiest to hardest). Clogged air filter, worn timing chain, leaking head gasket. To check for the third go to Auto Zone and get them to do a compression check, its free. I can't remember off hand but if the 93 has a TPS (throttle position sensor) that could also cause an irratic idle.
Removal & Installation
The need to work as cleanly as possible cannot be over-emphasized. Even the smallest amount of dirt, if allowed into the fuel pressure regulator and/or the fuel rail, will find its way to the fuel injectors. The nozzle openings of the injectors are very small. Keep hands and tools clean. Clean the areas to be disconnected with a suitable solvent. Carefully cover open fittings and connections to keep out foreign material. Dirt in the injectors almost guarantees a clogged fuel injector and engine performance problems.
