05 "Ford Escape, is there an easy way to remove the cigarette lighter socket that is located next to the Air bag indicator light. I have removed the center panel and can get to the back side. I see two little notches on the back side and I have tried to push these down and remove the socket, but I still think I'm doing something wrong?

use a test light on cigar lighter, put probe in center of socket and the ground on outside of cigar socket or any other good ground. if power to socket, this will tell you if the cigar socket is bad and needs replaced. if it has power and lighter does not work, then its the heating element itself thats bad, the part that heats up! good-day !
Ford focus 2010 - fuse box located underneath glove box passenger side.
two black turn screws - turn 1/4 turn to release white fuse box.
Cigaretter lighter fuse is fuse number 109 (difficult to see as white
text on white box!!!)
Fuse is 20A fuse located first left on second row as indicated in diagram.
The charger should have a light which shows that it has power. Check power at the socket by operating the cigarette lighter. If the lighter heats up you have power at the lighter. If not, locate the fuse box and check the lighter fuse. If the fuse is intact and you have power at the socket the charger is faulty. Bear in mind chargers also have a fuse in the connector nose. Most unscrew at the nose and the fuse can be removed from the charger.
The lighters frequently burn out after a couple of years but you may still have power to the socket. Plug the charger in and check that the charge indicator light comes on. If it does your fine. If not you'll need to remove the socket and check the wires attached to it.
Fuse box should be located either in the glove compartment, or to your left below stearing wheel. Also check fuses under hood, should be located next to the battery. Double check the GPS, most of them will nox plug into cigarette lighter plug. It could damage the GPS.
YOU CAN PURCHACE A NEW 12V OUTLET AT ANY PARTS STORE. THEY ARE EASY TO INSTALL TOO. YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THE DASH TRIM. TWIST THE HOUSING OF THE OLD ON TO THE LEFT AND IT WILL UNSCREW. REPLACE WITH A NEW ONE THE SAME WAY. THERE ARE ONLY TWO WIRES THAT WILL PLUG RIGHT IN.
